Cannot access WAP54G access point using the default IP 192.168.1.245 even after reset.

[ Edited ]
I cannot access my WAP54G access point using the default IP 192.168.1.245 even after pressing the reset button at the back.  It has firmware 3.04

Occasionaly I have been able to access it after a reset. Pinging comes back positive but as soon as I try to access it normally via its internet interface, it doesn't want to know, via cable or wireless.  Pinging it again after that produces a negative responce.
Control access is normally through a Linksys router, but there's no difference through a router or direct from a PC.
This has recently happened.  It was working ok before.

Any one any ideas?

hi... hard reset the AP...release the reset after 45 seconds and power down the AP after couple of mins. connect the AP directly to the computer...assign a static IP address on the computer for e.g. 192.168.1.10 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.1.1, go to command prompt and try pinging to 192.168.1.245, check whether you are getting any replies or not, if it doesn't give any reply then i believe AP have gone bad...

I have a brand new WAP54G access point. Right out of the box. Used the set-up that came with the unit and it had NO Firmware? Any ideas.
Using the user guide I tried reaching the unit at 192.168.1.245 and it will not connect me with the WAP?

Any ideas?

(Edited post for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

Read this document; the section called "So your WAP54G is dead" on page 9.

Re: Cannot access WAP54G access point using the default IP 192.168.1.245 even after reset.

An email from 'Community Forums' has just found it's way to my inbox notifying me of a reply to my original query, which was posted on the 22 september 2007.  I see your reply is dated 9-22-2007 so you must have replied on the same date as my posting.
Given the length of time between then and now I have obviously solved the problem . . .  No, not by buying a new AP!
I had the wireless security set up only as WEP and unbeknown to me at the time someone close by had hacked in and kept screwing up the AP.(I think just for kicks)
So be warned all who are reading this: DON'T USE WEP It's to easy to hack into.

My AP is now set up using WPA and I've not had any further problems.

Thanks anyway for your reply dibbler, I'll keep it just in case!

Sorry, my ISP has suffered a catastrophic hardware failure and my site has been down since 0620 yesterday.

I have moved the document to this temporary location.

The PDF is still in its original place as mentioned above, however it now only refers to the website I setup. the site can be accessed here. The site still isn't complete as I am overloaded with work.
