WAP54G how to connect it in client mode to a NON-linksys router

okay after almost two months one more time

i am using a wap54g.

i am wireless

i am trying to connect to a router ( someone else owns)

the router is in the d-link family, i am linskys we dont match.

the game came out to install it, he put in his wep keys, password gave me an ip number.

but it wont connect.

he says it is not compaitable with d-link

so how do i use the wap to hook inot his router.

i have tryed ap client mode

ap mode

please any help, linskys gave me some directions, but they dont seem to get it.

Yes you connec the WAP54G in a client mode by cloning the LAN MAC Address of the D-Link router on the Access point.

I have recently run into this problem.

It seems the WAP54G will not connect to the D-link in AP Client mode.

This seems to be a new problem (or one that has just been discovered).

As I don't have any D-link devices here I can't test to validate the problem to report to Linksys.

I suggest you email the problem to Linksys. You will have to keep on top of it our they won't do anything about it. It should ev entually get escallated to a point where someone may action it.

I am having the same problem with other areas of issue with the WAP54G and I have had to go to quite some lengths to get anything done about it.

Just make sure you do it in writting, that way there is a paper trail.

you know you sepnt so much watsed time with me over this i feel bad/

and i sure spent a lot of money over this.

i am reading the box and no where does it say that u must have another linksys to connect with.

at least not untill u read the install, then it tells u.

by then the store wont take it because the package is open, and they cant tell if its damage or i am telling the turth.

oh i will write, call, track them down like a mean dog/

You do have recourse on the basis that the product fails to meet specification. Nowhere does it state that the WAP54G will not connect to a D-link.

The only stipulation is Repeater/Bridge modes where it is stated that the WAP54G will only connect to another WAP54G or a WRT54G. However even that statement is not brought to attention untill after the device is unpacked, so you still have the right if return provided you return the item with all packaging. I'm not sure how your laws work on that in the USA, but here in NZ they are hard and fast.
