I'm trying to help my father connect his house to his business's network. At the office they have a WRT300N installed and I was hoping I could attach a directional outdoor antenna to it to beam the wireless signal up to our house where we could attach another WAP to setup a bridge.
The WRT300N is currently situated so the directional beam would pass through some oak trees on the way up to the house (about 150 yards away). Would the signal still be able to reach the house or do I need a completely clear line of sight to the house?
Also, what type of directional antenna should I buy and what kind of access point should i use on the other end (they wouldn't need n, just a g WAP)?
I have the same problem.I have the router on the basement and I want to bring the signal to the first floor.Problem is that we cannot unscrew the antennas and replace them with higher ones.Any Ideas??Tried with usb300n and still no signal. How about using a repeater? As far as I know ,they have nothing to the N protocols.
hi..as such there is no N-series range expander...However , the WRE54G should work fine with the N-router .. or else to have a higher range of signal ... install a WAP54GPE hardwired to the router ( u can run the cable upto 100 fts.. ) ..it should be good enough to give wireless signals for another 3250-300 fts...if required get another WAP54GPE in a repeater mode...
Thanks for all of the responses. Would the WRE54G be powerful enough to get the wireless signal up to our house which is ~125 yards from the business? What sort of coverage can we expect from it? Could we install one at the business and one outside of our house to make it work?
would it be easier to try and get a WAP54G and install a directional antenna on that?
Are there any product updates that would enable extending the range for the WRT300N? Antennas?...changes to the WRT54G for the N network?....etc. I have some dead spots in the house that I need the WRT300N to cover. Thanks.
I had a similar problem. Wanted to get internet to my Mom's house a little over 300 feet away. I have a WRT300N and installed a WRE54G in her attic. I put a WMP300N adapter on her desktop. Before installing the range expander I was getting connection speeds of 1-2Mbps. After installing the WRE54G she now gets speeds of 40Mbps. There are no obstructions between our houses. You will not get the N rated speeds as the WRE54G will only work with the B\G side of the router but you can get a fairly good signal with this setup. I'm not sure just how far the signal will go. I am working at a little over 300' but I think I'm about at the limit. Another 150' would be asking quite a lot but then they said I'd never get to 300 without directional antennas.
