just got a CM100 and noticed that
1. you can't do anything with the config / firmware, since it is handled by the ISP.
2. that it has DOCSIS 2.0 on it...
my question, is if i wanted to get DOCSIS 3.0 on it, it would have to be offered by the ISP and pushed/upgraded from the ISP, and there is nothing i can do with it on my end of things, correct ???
or does this even matter for home cable modems?

hey mister linksys specialist Vai-Fan, you are not telling the truth - i just purchased CM100 last month and the box printed some specs - that includes Standards: docsis 1.0, docsis 1.1 certified, docsis 2 certified, xxxxx, usb 1.1 --- therefore Linksys CM100 is docsis standards. know your product mister.
let me tell you about docsis - so you can be guided when you are confronted with same issue:
Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) defines the interface standards for cable modems and supporting equipment involved in high speed data transfer and distribution over cable television system networks. it permits additional high-speed data transfer over an existing cable TV system and is widely used by television operators to offer Internet access through an already existing hybrid fiber coaxial infrastructure. other devices that recognize and support DOCSIS include HDTV's and Web-enabled set-top boxes for televisions.
in other words, the same cable that brings you CSI can also allow you to send email and receive Internet news.

the first DOCSIS, v 1.0 appeared in 1997.
the current v 2.0 was released in 2002 and incl necessary updates to IP telephony and other operations that take place in real time.
DOCSIS v 3.0 is under development - as far as i know. experts expect it to include best practices for using cutting-edge technology to
provide users with what is known as channel bonding, a melding of send-and-receive functions that can take place during the same transmission.
and perhaps v 3.0 will be more awesome!

in no way was i calling myself a linksys specialist. and i never posted anything wrong in my posting,
when i went to the status page of the cable modem, it told me it was running DOCSIS 2.0 which is fine with me.. I never heard of docsys before so i looked it up online.
finding that there is a docsys 3.0 in the making, with blazing speeds, my inquiry was simply to find how or if it was even possible to get 3.0 on the cable modem, that's all i was asking..
