Re: WAG160N AP Isolation

Aha! They've removed it - I recall starting to download it but then realising it was useless as I don't know the language, but now it's been removed!

I'll make sure I point it out :smileywink:

Yeah, I thought I'd grabbed a copy too, but I can't seem to find it on my system.

Just what are Linksys doing here?  It appears to be dodgy at best.

Re: WAG160N AP Isolation

Don't know if this is going to help much. But I have the problem too.

I have both a WAG160N and a WRT320N. The wireless on the WAG160 has the problems (doesn't matter which encryption I have (tried WPA & WPA2)

I have the 320N router which work like a chamr (but hey I need a ADSL access gateway)

Problem is most noticeable on an Ipod touch (3g) or Ipohne 3g.

Connect to wireless (is my default)

Leave it more a bit or go mad connecting to websites over wireless on it (the first is easier)

Then after say half an hour/hour a need to turn off wireless and turn it back on on the ipod touch/iphone before it works again.

Running latest firmware

Re: WAG160N AP Isolation

I also have a WAG160N, The Stupid Automatic AP Isolation is the only issue I have with it, other than that, I'm able to run 8 wireless clients at the same time on it. (Which I originally thought was the reason AP Isolation was activated).

ARP is the problem, to the extent that sometimes I cannot actually ping the router itself, but I can still access my squid cache (which is on a ethernet port on the router), which is what I use for the internet.

Manually setting the arp doesn't fix the problem though.

If the hardware is similar to another Linksys router, maybe it's possible to compare the difference of the GPL Code between the WAG160N and the WRT160N.

It's just a suggestion. Thanks for the temporary solution, it's better than walking upstairs to manually restart the router..

Re: WAG160N AP Isolation

Yup, that is if the GPL code was still public... (it seems to have been withdrawn).

Re: WAG160N AP Isolation

I noticed, someone has precompiled a 1.00.14 version for Annex A and that seems to have solved the AP Isolation problem for me, it's been a whole day without a dropout yet, I'm not keeping my hopes up yet though! 1st time, I'm able to ping all the pc's in the house after 10minutes of uptime from the thing, so it's definately an improvement.

It's located here

http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?comm_cc=ANZ&comm_lang=en&board.id=DSL&message.id=8050#M8050

Let me know if this works for you, I'm sick of waiting for 1.00.16 to come out, I'll be surprised if they fix the problem too, this problem has been there since I got the thing, and that was about a year ago.

Re: WAG160N AP Isolation

Yup, in the release notes for .14 it actually mentions fixing a "wireless dropout issue". I really suspect that .15 is a regression on this bug - which actually suggests that a test was never added to the QA suite (if they even have any tests or QA processes) to check for this bug. If that's the case, it's a failure in working practice, which is yet more scary.

Sadly, the .14 firmware doesn't seem to want to apply on my router. I try to upgrade to it, and the router simply goes through most of the motions, then reboots back into .15.

Re: WAG160N AP Isolation

[ Edited ]

I called Linksys Headquarters in California a couple of days ago. After a little wait, I was told that the firmware does indeed have errors (which probably won't be fixed anytime soon). The engineer then said he would contact me after he got authorisation to send out a Version 2 router. Apparently, this will solve all my problems because that firmware has been updated with much more bug fixes.

When I asked him why they don't just release a firmware update for the Version 1, he just kept telling me that the Version 2 would fix my problems. I then asked how often they test their products for errors and if he would take my problem seriously and do something about it - he said that they look at them "all the time" checking for problems and that there wasn't any firmware beta releases he could send me, and that there was also nothing scheduled to be done for the WAG160N v1.

So I hope they will send me this router - I have had no reply by email or phone for 5 days now and their customer service is starting to annoy me, just slightly!! If it works. I will try to persevere with this - I'm away for 3 weeks over New Years but compared to their response times, that will hardly be a wait.

Anyway, I'll stop my rant - anyone who has already got a Version 2 (Annex A) please shout out if you have the same problem,

Justinsg

Edit:

- I also sent an email to the GPL Requests center about the removal of the firmware code from public access - no reply yet.

- I also tried the 1.00.14 'custom compiled' firmware that Lawbayly and ra66i were talking about - no obvious fixes for any of the problems mentioned here.
