Signal drops with valet AM10 with linksys WRT54G2

Hi,

I noticed that when I connect to wifi with my cisco valet, the connection drop from 54mpbs (in windows connection status) to 5 and even 1mbps. When I connect with the DSL modem/router (given by ISP) there's no problem.

I know that this router doesn't support wireless N but the AM10 valet support B,G and N wireless. Could any one help me?

I tried to disconnect the DSL router to see if there wasnt any interference but nothing changed.

I use Windows 7 PRO 64 bits for your info.

Thanks if anyone can help me, I don't know that to do now

First of all try the optimized settings on the router. So try the following steps:

# Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page.

# Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1492 or less (usually found on your routers main/ basic setup page)

# Then Click on wireless Tab select Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 1, 3, 6, 9, and 11. Click Save Settings.

#Adjust the following advanced wireless settings:

~~ Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 75

~~ Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306

~~ Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2307

Then check the wireless status..

Re: Signal drops with valet AM10 with linksys WRT54G2

Hi,

I've tried all theses settings except for the "Tab select Channel Width to 20 MHz", it seems there ain't no tab called like that. With the other values, the signal still varies from 54Mbs to 10 to 1 even 0 Mbps. I tried changing the Wireless channel because it seems to be the only setting that gave a little sign of improvement so far...

You can try to download the latest drivers from the following link: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/valet/AM10. Then install it manually. Here are the steps to install it manually:

# Click on Start --> Run and in the run box type "devmgmt.msc" and click Ok...

# Device manager window will appear and in that check for the Linksys adapter.. Right-click on the name of the Adapter that you want to install and click Update Driver Software…

# A window will appear asking “How do you want to search for the driver software?".. Click “Browse my computer for driver software"..

# Select the option “Search for driver software in this location “then click on Browse..

# Select the driver that you Downloaded and click on next button...

Second, to change the channel you have to select Wireless Channel to 1, 3, 6, 9, and 11.
