Re: WMB54G Music Bridge - SETUP TUTORIAL

[ Edited ]

Joesph, I followed your directions exactly as you described, but my Utility still won't recognize the Music Bridge.  Do you have any other suggestions?

Re: WMB54G Music Bridge - SETUP TUTORIAL

Did you reboot the PC and power down/power up the WMB?
Also, I found that powering down/up the router helped also, after
I had tried to reconnect to the WMB after not using it for a couple of hours.

Did you remember to add the default Gateway to the WMB in the Web Setuo Utility?

Also, do you have MAC address filtering in your router enabled?
If so, you have to ADD the WMB MAC address to the list and SAVE.

Finally, do you have your stereo channel that the WMB is connected to set?
Aux, Tape, etc.?

The right  blue light on the WMB should be blinkuing faster than default...about once a second if it is seeing your network. However, if it is missing a vital setting...like the gateway IP...it won't connect completely.

Let me know...I don't mind answering tons of questions.

Re: WMB54G Music Bridge - SETUP TUTORIAL

I was FINALLY able to get this to work using the tutorial (or at least most of it).  Apparently the issue that I was having was that the router (a Linksys router) did not have enough free IP addresses available (it was set for 50).  Once I increased the max number of IP addresses, everything worked perfectly.  Go figure.  Thanks for the help.

Re: WMB54G Music Bridge - SETUP TUTORIAL

This is a wonderful tutorial; they should pay you. But what if you are running your Bridge off of a wired/ethernet computer, connected to cable? And your wireless router is from Netgear? I was assured that was possible as well?

Milesw,
I'm not sure what you mean...
NOTE: One of the main issues that first confused me when I went through my trial and error setup phase, was the fact I thought that I had to connect the WMB directly to a PC ONLY to program it. That's not the case.
You can setup the WMB by a wire connection to ONE OF YOUR ROUTER PORTS.

Moreover, your WMB (wireless music bridge) is programmed through a direct, hardwired  ethernet connection to one of your machines only.

Once you have setup and programmed the WMB using the ethernet cable, and disconnected the ethernet cable between the WMB and the programming device,
(either to one of your wireless laptops OR directly to your router) you should be able to access and connect to the WMB from all your machines in your network providing that each machine has the scan utility program installed in it. You can't access the WMB from two machines at the same time, however.
Any hardwired machine to your router (not wireless) will also be able to access the WMB as it will connect wirelessly through the wireless router. Again, as long as you have the scan utility installed in the wired machine you'll be able to connect to the WMB.

As far as Netgear routers go...
I read review online of the WMB54G that claimed that it doesn't work with some non-Linksys routers. I've looked for an exception list everywhere but haven't found one. I'm guessing but I suspect  that the WMB works with Netgear routers as Netgear is also a big player in the router sector.
Just a hunch, though.

Re: WMB54G Music Bridge - SETUP TUTORIAL

Hi,

I've tried everything including your detailed steps.  when I got to the point of the ip address of the WMB I could not access it via IE.  I entered http://192.168.1.210/ but all I got was page couldn't be displayed.

The install per the CD worked and completed when connected to my wireless desktop.  I have a WRT54G router with only this desktop wireless.

I also tried changing my router to 192.168.1.200 as starting IP address with 50 max, but that didn't change anything.

My blue wireless light on the WMB is flashing once each second.

I have a MAC filter and have entered the WMP mac address as an allowed address on the router.

Any suggestions?

Re: WMB54G Music Bridge - SETUP TUTORIAL

>> "the WMP mac address"

The music bridge actually has 2 mac addresses. The one on the label is for the RJ45 port. The wireless mac is higher by one. If you used the one on the label, try adding one to the last digit and enter that into the list of allowed mac addresses.

I discovered this after I finally got mine working. At the time it was connected both by cable and by wireless. The music bridge utility showed that I had 2 devices. Didn't seem right to me, so I ignored it. But after I disconnected the cable, I only had one device, and its mac address ended in b1, while the mac address on the label ended with b0. Fortunately I don't use mac address filtering. So the b1 address was working OK.
