I too was surprised how this messed up by network and Internet experience. Like many of you, i could not find the on/off service. There were no instructions. To disable this service, here are the instructions:
* Connect the LAN cable from your computer to your router (same as what you did during installation)
* Go this URL (which will allow you to access the Setup manager: http://192.168.1.1/
* Type in your admin password
* Go to the Admin tab - and click on RESTORE FACTORY defaults (note that the admin module will disappear on you which is fine)
* REINSTAL the software
* ENSURE you DO NOT select home defender
- this solves the problem - hope this helps
DISCLAIMER: this is what I did (based on my own experience - and following a tip from rwb1921 Thx rwb1921)
