Do I need to have a router

I am trying to hook up an xbox 360 and the computer into the nh1005 hub that I got from wal-mart, and I was reading some of the other posts on this page and someone was told they needed a router.  All I have is the modem plugged into the hub uplink and then the computer and xbox plugged into spots one and two.  However when I do so I can't get either one on the internet.  All the lights on the hub are on and I know the modem works, do I need a router??

If your Internet Service Provider is cable then only one device can go online at  a time.In this case you need a router so that more than one device can go online..
