Problem Accessing Router

I have had to take NM off of all my computers due to it locking access to my router, this has only started happening since v5.

If I have NM installed on any computer that is turned on, after about a day, I can no longer log into my router using a browser, it just keeps stating that another administrator is online, this is also causing problems with other software that need access to the router stats.

I don't think this has anything to do with the wireless lock, which I turned off anyway to see if it made a difference

Re: Problem Accessing Router

Hi TheVoyager, There are multiple hardware versions for your router, what is your routers hardware version?
My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008

Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

Hi TheVoyager,

See this post: http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Network_Magic&thread.id=18

Yes, the Network Lock plays a major part in whether a computer can access the Internet, or not. The Network Lock can block Wired and Wireless Computers from accessing the Internet.

The Network Lock, or Network Filter is the same term, but different manufacturers can call it different things, but has the same meaning.

Example: If you remove a Wired Computer from the Network Map from a Wireless Computer, while the Network Lock was on and that computer was off, the Network Lock will prevent that Wired Computer from accessing the Internet. I know from experience.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, as stated I did actually turn the lock off but it made no difference, I had even tried reinstalling only onto one machine, making sure that the lock was OFF, accessing the router to make sure it worked, then later on found that I had been locked out yet again, BUT NM was still showing the lock as OFF [weird]

I'll try reinstalling it once more on the other machine and see what happens

Hi TheVoyager,

After you uninstall Network Magic on a Wired or Wireless Computer, within Windows XP operating systems, do not reinstall Network Magic right away.

Use Explore and remove the following folder and its sub-folders:
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pure Networks
\Program Files\Pure Networks
Still using Explore manually clean out your \Temp Folders. Run Disk Cleanup.

Reboot. Make sure that you are connected to the Router.

Reinstall Network Magic.

Do not use a Wireless Computer to turn on or off the Network Lock.

Use a Wired Computer to the Router, only.

Yes, all that was done when I last uninstalled.

Here is the results from my test.

Installed 00:35 on No 2 Computer All my machines run same OS etc as per sig

at 02:20 I noticed that the program I use to check stats and autoreboot the router if SNR falls below a certan figure was not able to log on to the router, checked this by opening up IE and trying to log in - Another Administrator online

here is a portion of the log from the program I use which is "Mosseywell's BSR" from which you can see the access was lost at 01:39.09

Hi Bob,

Uninstall Mosseywell's BSR temporarily. Reboot the computer. Is your Router, password protected? Change the password. Give the new password to Network Magic.

See what happens on another reinstall of Network Magic. You might have a program that is conflicting with Network Magic.

Hi, it looks like BSR was causing the problem, i didn't need to uninstall it as it runs as a portable app, i just stopped it from running in Startups, so far I have NM running okay on PC-2 and can still access the router from PC-1, will install NM back on PC-1 later and report back.

I have asked the question on the SKYUser forum where Mosseywell resides to see if anyone else has had the same problems.

Re: Problem Accessing Router

Thanks for checking that, I think we do have a compatibility problem here.

BillT, can you look into this?
