Novice Question about Accessing Weak Public WiFi signals

I apologize if this is a novice question, but would a range expander work in boosting a public WiFi signal so that I can more easily access it with a laptop, iPad, iPhone? I'm trying to get better access to a public WiFi hot spot from a vacation home, and I'm wondering if a range expander with a built in antenna would do the trick. I appreciate any help!

To ensure the proper configuration of the range extender with the public WiFi hot spot, you need to know the wireless settings of your router or access point.  These settings are:

• SSID

• Wireless Channel

• Wireless Security and Network Key
