The device is synced. It is connected to the network. Someone previously suggsted I change the channel on the router and perhaps that would improve reception. I cannot find the place on the router set-up page to do this and want to try that first. Where is it?

you have mentioned on a previous post the the extender has a different network name. is this the case still? if so, then the devices are not yet synced.
you have to check the channel settings for your network first by accessing the router's page. open internet explorer, log-in to 192.168.1.1 with admin for password (no username required). go to the wireless tab (make sure configuration view is set to MANUAL) and ensure that the radio band set is STANDARD- 20MHz. the RE1000 doesn't require for the channel to be specified however, it does only work with the radio band i previously mentioned so make sure the router has that set. since you've already logged in to the router's page, you can check whether the extender is connected to the network on STATUS> DHCP Client's Table. the RE1000 should be one of the items on the list.

OH. I thought that since the Extender was listed as part of WiFi networks available that it was synced correctly. Thanks. I will re-do the whole setup and see what happens....

I upgraded the firmware to the router (I thought it was up to date and was not), then reset the Extender. This time it set up completely and I have a strong signal, even outside the house and it does not show up in the list of Wireless Networks as it did before. I do not know what happened when I first set up the Extender, but evidently the setup was not complete. I am a happy camper. Thank you all...
