Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

Checking my notes, two other items of interest.

1.  When my Sony and Acer are talking to the E2000 directly my HOME network was good and I could access  both and the hard wired Desktop in the office.  When either is on the repeater the other two were not available on the network.  When I changed to the WORKPLACE network in Win7 the ACER and SONY files were available ot each other (both wireless) but the office computer remained unavailable.  This is of no moment to me since I only wanted access to my email and Skype on the Sunporch, but apparently the repeater can not handle Win7's IPv6.  Don't know a workaround for that which may be important to some but not to me.  One might be to make your "hardwired" computer also a wireless ??

2. If you have the two blue lights also check the net setup page for the repeater and at the bottom of the first page is an area labled "LINK STATUS".  If you see a Mac address there which looks like this:  98:Fc:29:ec:......etc,etc. then YOUR REPEATER IS TALKING TO YOUR ROUTER.  That part is done, spend the rest of the evening working with your computer including the ideas outlined above.

I know how frustrating this all can be, but believe that if you reset your repeater (small recessed button on the side) and then follow the instructions at the start of this thread, you will get the blue lights.  Also, if you believe you have set up your repeater properly and have trouble trouble getting back to the web setup page, unplug it, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in.  For some reason that makes a reconnection to the web page easier.

OK, that is definately all I have to offer.

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

I can access my Range Extender when it is plugged into the router via both wirelessly and hardwired computers.

Once I unplug the ethernet cable from the Range extender I can no longer ping the range extender at 168.192.1.240.

I have reset it. Unplugged it...tweaked the settings. and no joy. I have double checked all the settings per the foolproof setup instructions. Anyone else having this issue?

If you build a product and you have to instantly build a "help forum" doesn't that say something about the product?

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

Try one other thing.  Chage the 192.168.1.240  to 192.168.1.2  .  I got this tip from someplace and it has to do with the range of your router.  Instead of dealing with all that, if you put in a number that is close to, but not 1, it seems to clear up.

Hope it does

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

I just purcashed my WRE54G V3.  And Im having hell, as everyone else is..  I have a Motorola SBG6580 Router and Win 7.  I saw on here you needed to change the IP of the router from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1   ,  The router wont let me..  unless Im doing something wrong.  Any advise on setting this Extender up would be appreciated.

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

After hours of configuring and reconfiguring I was able to use my WRT54G router with my WRE54G range expander...I did this by not enabling security function.

I would now like to enable security and need some help.  Is the WPA Personal that is found in the router settings the same as WPA Pre-Shared Key found in the expander settings?

If I understand correctly you can't use the WPA2 settings found in the router with the WRE54G expander...is that correct?

Is there anything else I should know before I try to enable security settings?  Right now without security the expander works perfectly but I think I should add security settings and hopefully with advice It won't take me hours to configure....Thanks!

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

After about 6 tries and failures.  I made a change to my main router standard channel which was set to auto, to channel 3 2.422ghz and assured that the WRE54g was set to channel 3.  All worked.  Finally!!!

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

Trying to setup WRE54G with Belkin 4668 router.  Belkin uses default IP address = 192.168.2.1 and will not let me change IP address to 192.168.1.1 as instructed by Easy, Foolproof Setup Instructions.  Get error message that address is already being used for Guest access (which is disabled but guess the IP address is still reserved).  Got any suggestions?  Or is the WRE54G incompatible with Belkin router and I should return it to Amazon?

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

That's easy just change the IP address of the range expander, make it follow 192.168.2.x :smileyhappy:

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

Ok, I recently purchased the WRE54G-v3.  It's a refurbished model.  I have tried everything I can find on this forum, I have tried just about everything except a ballpeen hammer.  The **bleep** thing just doesn't want to work!  I thought Cisco put out GOOD products!

I'm on a secure network and, as such, can NOT use the button on the side.  I tried the install disk and the site survey fails every time.  I tried to use the ""easy, foolproof setup instructions" and when I enter "http://192.168.1.240" or "http://192.168.1.2" it won't connnect!  I even tried  "https://192.168.1.240" or "https://192.168.1.2" without success.  How can I get this thing to WORK???????????

Re: WRE54G v3 - Easy, Foolproof setup instructions.

I am having HUGE difficulty with this thing.  While I'm no member of the "geek squad", thought I would be more than capable of installing this product.

I have tried resetting the expander several times.  I have it hard-wired to my router and am getting only the link blue light at this moment.  From my computer, I can not get the 192.168.1.240 to come up for anything to finish the set up.  Setup disk continually gives me site survey fail.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!  I am getting frustrated beyond belief!
