E4200 - Mac OS X Lion compatibility

Would anyone at Cisco-Linksys be able to tell me when a Mac OS X Lion compatibility patch will be issued for the new Linksys wireless routers, in particular, the E4200?

Hi there. Not sure when they would release an update to support it.

You can still configure the router without using the setup CD. You may refer to this article for instructions. Look for the section that says install manually through the setup page.

Re: E4200 - Mac OS X Lion compatibility

Does someone know if Linksys is going to release a firmware upgrade with support for the changes that Lion introudiced?

Since I upgraded to Lion I can't use TimeMachine for my backups. It seams that Apple has improved the security used by the AFP protocol.

Here you have more information:

And here is a workarround. I have to say that I haven't tried it yet.

Re: E4200 - Mac OS X Lion compatibility

i think they(Cisco) recognized this problem and are probably working on resolving this issue.

just an assumption but you can infer from this article here that they know the problem or that it has been raised to them.

Re: E4200 - Mac OS X Lion compatibility

I tried the workaround but am stuck at step #2 since the E4200 doesn't seem to respond to AFP requests.

Re: E4200 - Mac OS X Lion compatibility

As of now, Cisco Connect software issued with Linksys E4200 router doesnot seem to support the newer version of MAC OS X, i.e., MAC LION.....Surely Cisco must be working on the fix for this....Till then we can try configuring our touter using the manual set up....

For DSL users: Without PPPoE

Dor DSL Users: With PPPoE

For Cable Users:

As far as the concern of taking a back up for your MAC computer using the shared HDD is concerned, First of all try taking a back up for the data that is already there on your disk and then try formatting the drive with file system HFS+, as it is completely supported with your Linksys E4200....

Re: E4200 - Mac OS X Lion compatibility

Download the latest Cisco Connect Setup from the product home page.

Support for Lion 10.7 is now in the latest release of  Cisco Connect Setup, starting at  Build 1.4.11222.0 and later.

Re: E4200 - Mac OS X Lion compatibility

I talked with the support of Linksys and they told me that Apple denies AFP and that is an apple issue. I am sure that apple made that, so the customers have to buy time capsule or airport extreme to be able to make network backup with time machine. The workaround you posted does not work because OS X Lion denies the AFP requests to the router and I was stuck on step 2 too. If someone finds any workaround for this issue I will be very very happy, or maybe I have to change my router for Airport Extreme..For now I am making backup with SuperDuper! but this lasts forever and is not an incremental backup.

Re: E4200 - Mac OS X Lion compatibility

Have you tried enablling legacy AFP access as per: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4700?  Apple clearly knows about the issue - Google "AFP Lion" for loads of info.

The steps shown by apple work for eveything EXCEPT Time Machine.
