How to reset the Switch???

I have this new SRW224P switch at my office and tried changing the default password to a new password and did say that the settings were ok, but when I tried to test using my new password, seems that it keeps me from prompting the same password window.  I noticed there is no reset or anything on the device.  How can I undo my settings??? :smileysad:

Re: How to reset the Switch???

Well Brenda I believe that switch doesn't have any reset at all. If you forgot your password then that means that's the end for that switch.

Re: How to reset the Switch???

there is actually a way to access the switch again...follow the procedures below:

1. Connect to the console port using terminal emulation parameters (typically 38400, 8, 0, 1, None)
2. Reboot switch (Remove power)
3. Hold down Ctrl U while rebooting
a. Menu will be displayed
4. Select>  [D] Delete file
5. Type startup-config (be sure that this is the ONLY file that you delete – if you delete other files, you will have to reload the firmware)
6. Now, you have erased the configuration file and you should be able to reboot and login with the default username and password.

Re: How to reset the Switch???

This situation occur, because password max length is 8 characters. Try type first 8 characters of your new password OR reset switch at boot mode.

Re: How to reset the Switch???

Hey
I found this when i was serching. It is cool it should work for the following types of Linksys models Switches SRW2016, SRW2024, SRW2048, SRW224G4, SRW248G4, and possibly other switches.

At this time, this password recovery procedure is not made publicly available by Linksys.  Furthermore, when I needed to password recover one of these switches for the first time, I was given wrong information from Linksys.  As such, I'm documenting this procedure here for reference.  In fact, this may be the first time this procedure has been documented.

Follow these steps to password recover the applicable Linksys switches.
Physical access of the switch is required, in order to connect the serial cable.

--
1.) Connect the Linksys serial cable that came with the switch between the switch serial port and a nearby computer serial port.  For Windows, use Hyper Terminal or VanDyke CRT/SecureCRT.  For Linux, use minicom.  For other unix types, try cu/tip.
2.) The switch default serial port configuration is set to 38400 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control.
3.) Confirm that you have a valid serial connection by pressing enter a few times.  You should be prompted with a login screen.
4.) If you have successfully established serial communication with the switch, reboot the switch by disconnecting and then reconnecting it's power cable.
5.) The switch will begin it's POST procedure as displayed in the serial terminal emulator.  Be ready at the keyboard to press the Esc key.
6.) Watch for the following line to appear during the boot sequence.  When you see it, immediately press the Esc key;
"Autoboot in 2 seconds - press RETURN or Esc. to abort and enter prom."
IMPORTANT: Do not hold down the Esc or Enter/Return key during the boot sequence.  Only press the Esc key when prompted.
7.) If you successfully interrupted the boot sequence, you will be prompted with a Startup Menu.  Option number 3 will be the "Password Recovery Procedure".  Select this option.
8.) The terminal will display, "Current password will be ignored!".  Press enter to continue with the boot sequence.
9.) The default account "admin/<blank>" will be enabled and you can log into the switch using this account.  From here, you can set new accounts without having lost the switch configuration.
10.) After you have configured new accounts and documented the passwords, reboot the switch and log in normally to confirm that passwords have been recovered successfully.
11.) You are done.  Disconnect and store the serial cable in a safe place for future use.  Be sure to document a login username and password somewhere safe for future reference.

I wish you good luck but it only works when you are connected throught he Serial port on the Switch.

Let me know if it works for you.

Re: How to reset the Switch???

Hello! I have a similar problem. I hope somebody can help me. I have a switch SRW2016. I don´t know the password and my partners have forgotten it. I have done the steps recommended for Pmathew and sardynx27, but the switch ignores the default password, I think. Is there any procedure to recover the default configuration? Thank you very much.

Re: How to reset the Switch???

Try it again but this time dont disconnect the serial cable on the last step, login via hypertterminal not the browser and add the default password back into the list, in the menu there is an option for passwords, if there are no current passwords, just add admin back into it, save the settings, reboot switch, now try login via the web browser with the password that you added to the list.
