srw224g4 and port mirroring

Hi,

I'm playing around with a linksys srw224g4 and having a few problems. I'm trying to capture the traffic using port mirroring, which is working fine. However, no matter how i change the config of the switch, i never seem to be able to see any VLAN tags. So either I'm configuring the switch really wrong or........is the tagging removed before the mirrored traffic is passed out of the switch to wireshark? Not alot in the manual about this. Anyone know? Does port mirroring strip the tagging info from the frame before it passes it on?

Many thanks,

Syndy.

Re: srw224g4 and port mirroring

a) There will only be 802.1q tags in the packets if the packets on the source port contained them, too, i.e. you won't see any on a source port in access mode.

b) some network drivers strip the 1q and won't pass it unless properly configured. See the wireshark wiki on this topic.

Thanks GV. I think i might have cracked it. Usuful info regarding the NIC cards, not something i was aware of before.
