Answering machine doesn't work

I have seen this question posted before but have found no answers. I have T-mobile at home with a Linksys WRTU54G router. I recently purchased a new phone and cannot get the darn answering machine to work. First I bought a V-Tech dect 6.0 and then a AT&T 6.0. I have tried setting the number of rings but it just bypasses that. I would rather use the answering machine than the T-mobile voicemail. I have tried calling Linksys, T-Mobile and AT&T. No one can help me. It's very frustrating. Any help is appreciated. I did have a panasonis 5.8 before and the answering macine worked. The phone eventually stopped working. I also hate panasonic that's why I am trying other phones and now with the 6.0 it is hard to find a 5.8.

Re: Answering machine doesn't work

I believe T-Mobile does not support answering machine and there is no such settings on that Router which will enable "Ansering Machine" on your phone. Maybe you can check the settings of the Phone which is connected to the Router. I think it might have some settings from which you can enable answering machine on  your phone.

Re: Answering machine doesn't work

Ria,

Your answering machine doesn't work because the Linksys router is sending a non-standard ring cadence of 2 seconds ringing, 2 seconds quiet, instead of the North American POTS standard of 2 seconds ringing, 4 seconds quiet.

See here:

It's an extremely frustrating situation, and we can't get anyone to fix it.
