Re: No blue light (phone) on my WRTU54G-TM Wireless-G Broadband Router with 2 Phone Ports

After a search on google for no blue light on my WRTU54G-TM Wireless-G Broadband Router with 2 Phone Ports, it brought me here. I tried everything everyone suggested but nothing worked. But it did make me feel better I was not alone. Anyway, after 5 days of being on the phone with countless Tmobile techs my blue light came on. So I am here to share how I got it working...it took no router reconfigurations.

Like I said 5 days and countless hours and I finally got it going. First they said it was my router, but I knew this to be false. I had perfect connection to my DSL internet(AT&T), so they sent me a new router. Then they said it was my SIM card..so off to the locale Tmobile store I went for a free SIM card replacement. Still no blue light! Oh I forgot to mention...when logged into the router page...status..voice, I was getting the error of SIM not registered. So a trouble ticket was made for me on day 4. On day 5 I called Tmoblie@Home support to see the status of my ticket, because at this time I was really ticked off I had not had a phone for several days. Rachel at Tmobile got me this time. She asked me if I had registered my phone with 911. I told her that I had already checked that with another tech 2 days earlier, by signing into my tmobile account and verifying that my address was there under my home phone number. She then asked me did you physically register it. I said No...No one told me too. Not the box the router came in...not the CD for easy installation...not any of the other techs I had spoke to for the past week! So she told me to go to Tmobile.com and register...I rolled my eyes and followed her directions...pretty much certain I was doing this in vain. Well I got the dang blue light! Yep...came right on after I followed her directions. So, I asked her...why didn't anyone else have me do this..her response, it says on the box the router came in, that you have to do it. I told her...No it doesn't. Even the set up CD says a rep from Tmobile will set up 911. Didn't want to argue with her any further...since she was the one to get my blue light on. So I thanked her and I have been happy every since.

So below are the steps you might want to try if you are having this problem.

NO BLUE LIGHT...error SIM NOT REGISTERED(even though Tmobile says it is)
1)Go to www.tmobile.com
2)Click register(even if you already have an account, pretend you don't)
3)Enter your tmobile@home phone number..hit submit From there it will reconize the number as a Tmobile@home # and ask for a cell phone # associated with the account so it can text you a 6 digit passcode. 4)Put in your cell phone number..submit Passcode should be sent to your cell immediately.
5)Enter passcode on tmobile site..hit submit
6)From here it will bring you to your MyTmobile account/profile 911 page. Verify the that the address is correct for 911. Then you must hit UPDATE on that page...even if you didn't change a thing. Then power cycle the modem and the router. After waiting about 30 secounds reconnect the power to your modem...I had to wait for my DSL light to remain steady about 30 seconds, then reconnect the power to your Tmobile router.

Wait for internet to connect. I then went back to the router page...STATUS...VOICE and refreshed it. Wahlaaa...Blue light went on and SIM Registered.

Hope this helps someone.

As an update, the blue light lasted about a week and this weekly schedule seems to be somewhat of a pattern. Power-cycling the modem and router got the service back and I am wondering if others have seen this situation - where services lasts about a week. Also I wonder if I should proactively power-cycle each week. -S

Yep, here's a thread on it.

Mine lasts several weeks.

Re: No blue light (phone) on my WRTU54G-TM Wireless-G Broadband Router with 2 Phone Ports

I've had this about 2 months now -- lost the blue light/connectivity twice in the first 4 days (reboot fixed it), and have only lost the connection twice in the 7 or 8 weeks since then. In 3 of the episodes, the line was just dead - no dial tone. The 4th time, I had the "fast busy" tone when I picked up the handset. All times, rebooting the router fixed the problem.

I'm convinced there's a condition of some sort that occurs at T-Mobile's side that somehow creates a disconnect that the firmware SHOULD be able to recover from, but doesn't. Hopefully Linksys and T-Mobile are testing another version of the firmware that can detect the condition, and reset the line -- or simply prevent the condition in the first place. I believe it *will* be resolved -- just hoping it's sooner rather than later. Overall, I like the service and certainly like the pricing. I was amazed to see Comcast's latest pricing for their VoIP offering: it's now $24.95 a month for "unlimited local", plus 5 cents a minute "long distance". That kind of pricing can only survive until other services like T-Mobile@Home are truly ubiquitous, so that there's real market competition.

One last note for now: although sound quality is generally excellent with T-Mobile@Home, I notice sometimes that we have a "crackle" or cut-out occasionally, and there's no real correlation between that and any other internet usage through the router. I have a feeling that this will turn out to be another tweak to the firmware...

access your router's admin settings, go to the status tab, then voice tab, is your sim showing registered or not registered?   if it says not registered, hit the refresh button on the bottom right hand side of the sreen, that should do it

Now I have the no blue light problem. Wife called and said there was no dial tone on the phones. I'm logged into the router remotely (WinVNC) and I see that the sim card is INSERTED but also 'Not Registered'. I had her powercycle the router, the router is again back up and I can view it remotely but still the sim is 'Not Registered'. Anyone else in the L.A. area having the same problem?

My voice error log says:

Error Code J0012.4 Failed to connect. Location unknown.

Your error code is the same error I was getting. Did you have the blue light before and it just went out? Or is this new service and you have yet to get the blue light? My issue was with the 911 setup on the tmobile.com my account page. 6 days of non stop calling tech support exchanging my sim and router...and that's all it took.

Re: No blue light (phone) on my WRTU54G-TM Wireless-G Broadband Router with 2 Phone Ports

I've been working mostly very well for ~ 2 months. Today was the first time I didn't have a blue light but DID have the internet.

IT IS FIXED NOW however. While on hold waiting for T-Mobile tech support (was on hold for probably 20 mins) I called the wife on the other line to let her know that the phone was down hard, that her power cycle didn't fix it. She then replied "I didn't power cycle it".

Huh?

"I didn't power cycle it because I didn't have anyone I needed to call anymore today."

Arrrgh!

I had her power cycle it for real this time, it all came up fine, even the VOIP.

I then hung up waiting for T-Mobile tech support.

Why isn't there a reboot button on the user interface for this router? I would have rebooted it remotely but I can't see how without buying a ethernet controllable power strip.

Re: No blue light (phone) on my WRTU54G-TM Wireless-G Broadband Router with 2 Phone Ports

There is a new version of firmware that you may want to upgrade to. Once you have downloaded the firmware you can do the upgrade as follows (taken from the user guide): The Administration Tab - Firmware Upgrade Firmware can be upgraded by clicking the Upgrade button after browsing for the firmware, which you can download from the Linksys website. Do not upgrade your firmware unless you are experiencing problems with the Router. For more information about upgrading firmware, refer to “Appendix C: Upgrading Firmware”.
