Re: 192.168.1.1

My Linksys wireless used to work perfectly well, until I went to an internet cafe and had to log onto their network (with their ip addresses) to download emails. Anyway, I set everything back to auto ip addresses but since then, I cannot connect to my wireless.

I have reset the thing many times, have had it turned off, tried to do set up again with the CD supplied with the wireless, no chance. I have also tried to log onto 192.168.1.1 but cannot do that either.

Today, I have tried again to do the set up, but only get to CONFIRM NEW SETTINGS, the system then configures the router but I cannot save these setting.

Have tried another wireless (also LINKSYS), same result, which means there is nothing wrong with my wireless.

Please help, would love to have wireless (secured access) again. Have tried all the suggestions here but no success either.

Re: 192.168.1.1

I assume you're on a laptop that you carried in, but you have a wireless router at home.  Now it doesn't connect at home.

It sounds to me like the router is ok, but the configuration on your laptop's card is not correct.  Perhaps the encryption key is wrong?

A home wireless setup should never allow DHCP.  Always code it for a static IP for security purposes.  It may have been done like this, but the connection may still be DHCP for the iCafe.  That being the case, your router is doing the right thing by not allowing you access.

Definitely check the settings on the laptop, assuming I understood this correctly.

Re: 192.168.1.1

I am following your advice.  This is great.  However once I have done the above mentioned steps and have seen both the IP address and the default gateway, what do I do next?  Do I cycle through again?

Re: 192.168.1.1

Hi,

I had the same issue.  This is what resolved it for me:

Open Internet Explorer
Click on "Tools"
then "Advanced"
then click the "Restore Defaults" button.

Note:  I did not change any settings in IE prior to my inability to access the router page.  ~Something~ must have changed the settings, though because restoring the defaults did the trick.

Good luck!

Re: 192.168.1.1

Resetting the router to try and get the 192.168.1.1 address doesn't always work, especially if the router is "dead" - mine just "died" last night. It doesn't matter how many hard resets I do or how long I hold down the silver 'reset' button, there is no reaction.

Re: 192.168.1.1

I was having the same problem.  Now I can get to the log in screen but it wont accept anything and I get a 401 access error.  What gives?  I'm using a WRT150N.
