BEFSR81 V2

Attempted to update the BEFSR81 V2 to firmware revison 2.45.10 using the utility provided.  The update failed after running the normal amount of time.  Now the unit is inoperable.
What is required to resurrect the BEFSR81 V2 router to the point that the firmware can be reloaded?

are you able to ping the router itself?

Re: BEFSR81 V2

The router is not doing DHCP.

Set my IP address to 192.168.1.10 and am able to ping 192.168.1.1.

Cannot bring up a screen at address 192.168.1.1.

The "Diag" light is blinking red.

Re: BEFSR81 V2

Did you try to reset it by holding the reset button for 30sec?

Re: BEFSR81 V2

In deed I did.  Several times, and it returns to the same state.

Re: BEFSR81 V2

Did you also try applying the firmware again using the tftp program?

Re: BEFSR81 V2

I did, and now it is working.

Downloaded -

ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/befsr81v2_tftp.exe

and

ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/befsr81v2_v2.45.10_code.bin

Set workstation address to 192.168.1.10 with gateway 192.168.1.1.

Ran the tftp program with this firmware and the router is back in operation.

Thanks to Patricia in Linksys support.

Re: BEFSR81 V2

Hi, I have the same problem with DHCP failure (intermitent) on my BEFSR81v2 router as described above.
I tried to set a static IP (192.168.1.10) and on my PC and then ping the gateway (192.168.1.1)... half of the pings drop.
The diag light on the router is flashing since I tried to do a hard reset to get it to revert to factory defaults.
In my attempt to upgrade the firmware (which is old) fail and I get message from the tftp application that it failed to get responses from the server on the router (remember the I cant properly ping the router...)

I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions...

Re: BEFSR81 V2

Remember to powerdown, wait half a minute, and power back up after a firmware update. Oh, I do wish the BEFSR81 GUI had a reboot router button, or would auto-reboot aftet a FTFP update. Grr.
