Re: error while connecting to http://192.168.1.1

O.K. This output in reply 7 looks good. You have not DHCP configured for your LAN connection. The computer gets the IP address directly from your router. This means the router's ip address is 192.168.1.1 and it is responding. Also, the PPP connection is not listed anymore which means the direct internet connection from your PC to the modem is not there.

But your problem accessing http://192.168.1.1/ is still there?

So let's see: are you able to access the internet with this setup (no PPP connection active, IP address from router)?

You wrote in the beginning pings time out also to that address. Are you running a software firewall on the computer?

Re: error while connecting to http://192.168.1.1

Yes, im still getting the error request timed out.
About the firewall setting, i have the windows firewall only. And a antivirus(nod32).
Are these settting affecting the router?

Thanks.

Re: error while connecting to http://192.168.1.1

The windows firewall should not affect the pings or the browsing. Same for the antivirus. But you'll never now. You could try to disable both for a moment. As long as you have no internet connection established it's no problem.

This is a little strange problem. Is it any different if you disconnect the connection to the modem, i.e. the router is only connected to the computer? Unplug the router from power, wait a few seconds until the computer notices that it lost its ethernet connection and then plug it in again. Once the router boots up the computer should get a new IP address from the router. Now try the ping 192.168.1.1 and the URL http://192.168.1.1/ again. The ipconfig output should be the same as last time (except maybe for the IP address of the computer).

If it is not working, could you open a command prompt window and enter the following command:

telnet 192.168.1.1 80

the window should clear and the cursor should blink in the topleft corner. But I guess you'll get an error there, too.

For the address conflict, the only way to solve this is to give either the modem or the router an different IP address. Can you access the router setup when there is nothing else connected to the router except the computer? In that case there should be no conflict as the router is not connected to the modem (i.e. the internet port is empty).

Re: error while connecting to http://192.168.1.1

go to the command prompt and type ipconfig and get the default gateway and type again on the command prompt the "ping space the default gateway" and checkec if your still having request timed out.

Re: error while connecting to http://192.168.1.1

Hi probably a little late here, but thought I'd suggest something. Sounds like a cabling problem to me looking at your ipconfigs. Try this:

Unplug your dsl modem and router, and turn off your PC.

Make sure on your modem, you have only the telephone line(s), power adapter, and ethernet cable plugged into it.(make sure there is no usb cable plugged in, this is where the problem probably lies).

On your router make sure that the ethernet cable that is plugged into the WAN port is connected to the modem. Initially, ensure that there is only one more ethernet cable plugged into the router, in ports 2 or 3, trying to avoid plugging into a DMZ port(in case your router needs a firmware update relating to it's DMZ port).

On your Computer, ensure that only one ethernet cable is plugged into it, and it runs to either port 2 or 3 on the router as described above. Ensure that you don't have a USB cable running to the modem.

Plug your dsl modem in. If your modem has a standby button, ensure that it isn't in standby mode. Wait one minute. Plug your router in and wait one minute. Turn your PC on.

At this point you should have internet connectivity, and can check for firmware upgrades for your router, upgrade if necessary, and add additional PCs to your router.

Hope that helps.

Re: error while connecting to http://192.168.1.1

hi, i was able to connect 192.168.1.1 when i first installed my wireless router. but now, i am trying to reconfigure the settings, i only get "network erro (tcp_error)".

i've tried the follow the steps being discussed here but all the same i still can not connect. i need to reconfigure the set-up because i suspect hackers using my wireless connection.

thanks, i would appreciate any help with this matter.
