64 bit driver for Linksys WUSB54G - works with Vista RC1

Hi all :smileyhappy:
I have Vista RC1 64 bit installed (dual boot with XP Pro) and had 1 hell of a time getting my WUSB54G v4 working. I tried the Ralink 26 or 27 meg .exe download which installs thier software and doesnt work. (I prefer static IP anyways. No refreshing so you dont lose connect even for a split second and no extra crap you dont need running in the background.) I tried copying the driver files out of the program and then uninstalled the program and tryed to load the drivers in. I tried everything I could think of. NOTHING worked. So I started looking again and I came across something that works like a charm :smileyvery-happy: I am online with Windows Vista 64 bit using my Linksys WUSB54G v4 wireless adapter right now posting this. :smileyvery-happy:

So this is what you do:
1.) In Device Manager, disable and then uninstall your adapter.

2.) download and SAVE to your desktop the 64 bit version of the rt2500usb driver from Gigabyte at http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Communication/Driver_Model.aspx?ClassValue=Communication&ProductI...
(actual link so you can copy and paste if you like)
It will be in a .zip file with about 37 other files you wont need and can delete later.

3.) Unzip to your desktop. DONT WORRY. It will all be in a folder so you wont have 40 loose files on your desktop.

4.)Now back in Device Manager, click on the "scan for hardware changes" and when the window pops up to update software for your wireless adapter you will want the option to browse your computer for the software.
Navigate to the folder you just downloaded on your desktop.
"Desktop > comm_wbkg_v234005 > GN-WBKG_64 > drivers > WINX64" and click OK. Windows will install the drivers and you are set. (dont pay any attention to the name windows uses for your adapter)

5.) Connect to your network. :smileyvery-happy:

6.) Copy or move the "WINX64" folder to another location so you have it if you need it.

7.) DELETE all the crap you just downloaded from your desktop.

Have a great day and HAPPY SURFING!!!

OR:
I have decided to make this simple and easily accessible for everybody. At least untill someone (not pointing any fingers or mentioning any names but it rhymes with linksys) decides to produce 64 bit drivers. Your **WINDOWS 64bit OS** will properly acknowledge and configure the device.
PLEASE refer to 1 of these posts for drivers =
or
and the PROPER installation instructions are at =
***PLEASE follow the instructions PRECISELY and PLEASE dont waste your time trying to use a driver for an adapter that doesnt EXACTLY match the model # of your adapter. The WUSB54Gv4 does not work on the WUSB54AG or the WUSB54GC. The WMP54Gv4 does not work on the WMP54GS. etc. etc. Different adapters use different chipsets and require different drivers 97% of the time. I say 97% instead of 99% because I like the # 97 better. :smileywink: If your specific adapter is not listed please send me the requested info.

If you have driver installation problems with another specific adapter, or are haveing issues with any of these drivers, please email me the following information:
1.)your Operating System version (if you have a 32 bit system
you shouldnt be haveing driver installation issues. Other
problems should be posted in the forum.)
2.)EXACT make and model # of the adapter
3.)Hardware ID of the adapter (in Device Manager right click
on your adapter, select "properties", select the "details"
tab at the top and then select "hardware ID" from the
  drop down menu.)
4.) EXACT error message AND code # if you are haveing an issue with one of these drivers.
Once your problem has been resolved I will add it to the list above.
Also please check out this posting:
It has come to my attention that there are a few adapters that need specific drivers for 32 bit Vista. If you are unable to get the XP drivers working on a 32 bit Vista OS check out this link:
Hope this stuff helps you all out.
Have a great day and happy surfing!

Re: 64 bit driver for Linksys WUSB54G - works with Vista RC1

No problem. I have already sent them. I would attach the files here for anyone who needs them but i dont see an option for that.
Follow directions from 1st post with them. Let me know if you have any problems. Make sure you give a detailed description of problem if you have 1.
My email is same as the MSN messenger contact for anyone else who needs them.

AND HAVE A GREAT DAY! :smileyvery-happy:

Re: 64 bit driver for Linksys WUSB54G - works with Vista RC1

Hey all :smileyhappy:
I asked austinem to post back here with the results but he hasnt so far. He is probably very busy.
As it turns out austinem has a WUSB54GC. It uses a different driver than the WUSB54G.
His issue has been resolved.

mrsmith 007 drivers are working fine on my system with a Linksys wusb54g v4 adapter & Vista RC1 64 bit os. Windows even shows it as a Linksys adapter. The drivers installed on first attempt without any issues during the install.

Re: 64 bit driver for Linksys WUSB54G - works with Vista RC1

Thank you for taking the time to post this forum message.  I used the information provided, and after starting and setting Windows Wireless Configuration service to auto, finally got my WMP54G card working.

Again thanks
