How to select 5GHz band for AE1000?

The product literature for the AE1000 says that you can select which band to use. However there doesn't seem to be an option to do that. I have an E4200 and when I set it up, it assigned my 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands the same SSID. If I configure the AE1000 to connect to that SSID, it seems to connect to the 2.4GHz band. Do I have to change the SSID for 5GHz and initiate a connection to it manually? Why doesn't the documentation address this?

Always have 2 different SSID's. Example. HomeNetwork HomeNetwork5G Always conflicts when you name them the same as you are seeing.

I avoid the connect software like the plague. Always better to configure yourself. That software is geared towards people that are new to networking and know nothing about it.

Re: How to select 5GHz band for AE1000?

I already set up 2 SSIDs but my computer (using an AE1000) can only see the 2.4G network. The router is a Cisco E3000.

On 2.4G the reception is poor. I am a beginner to networking, please guide me how to set up the AE1000 to work on 5G. Thank you

Re: How to select 5GHz band for AE1000?

Can you help me with my AE1000? I have it connected to my other computer, but the signal is so weak that I can not ge the computer can receive the signal somethimes during the day. Is there a certain distance that the AE1000 has to be?

Thank you.

You state that you have poor signal on 2.4GHz, so I have to question why you would expect to get any signal at 5GHz. 2.4GHz has much better range, especially through obstacles.

Re: How to select 5GHz band for AE1000?

I have a couple of questions. 1: I am looking for instructions on how exactly to access the "set-up" functions that will allow me to change bands. This adapter is worse than my Belkin G Wireless USB Network Adapter (Which, since I have installed the Cisco/Linksys AE1000, won't work. Does the AE1000 driver/software remove all other wireless adapter drivers?) I have tried everything the help pages tell me but no luck. Ideally, I would appreciate detailed walk-through instructions as I am not too savvy when things start getting too technical.

2: I did notice one sentence/item that mentioned the adapter automatically selecting the proper band to use. Is this true?

3: Is it just me or does the 'Live Chat' not work?

I appreciate any help anyone may be able to provide me.

Thank you,

Brian

This type of adapter is dual-band and can connect to both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. If you prefer to use the 2.4 GHz/5 GHz wireless band, you can manually change that on the router. What brand/model of router you have? :smileywink:
