UBUNTU + WUSB600N v2 WORKS!!

I thought some of you would like to know that you can get the WUSB600N v2 working on Ubuntu (I'm on Karmic)

What to do:

 (All Kudoz to Yohann Chastre from the Ubuntu Launchpad forum)

1. Download and save the  RT3572 module (look on Ralink website, Support, Linux) 
2. Open Terminal, go to the Download folder (or wherever you saved the file and execute "bunzip2 2009_1222_RT3572_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.0.tar.bz2"  without the "
3. In the same terminal issue the command "tar -xvf 2009_1222_RT3572_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.0.tar"
4. cd into the 2009_1222* folder

5. gedit common/rtusb_dev_id.c  and scroll down until you see a section that starts with #ifdef RT35xx

    then go further down and ADD BEFORE the #endif following line    "{USB_DEVICE(0x1737,0x0079)},"  without the quotes

    don't forget the ,

    save the file (basically you added the vendor and device id
6. gedit os/linux/config.mk   and set the following flags to yes "y"

   HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT              HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT

   HAS_QOS_DLS_SUPPORT           HAS_DOT11N_DRAFT3_SUPPORT

   HAS_DOT11_N_SUPPORT            HAS_STATS_COUNT

   exit and save

7. in your terminal execute the following (without quotes)

   "sudo make"
   "sudo make install"
    You will get a few error messages on size bigger than... just ignore

8. execute the command "sudo modprobe rt3572sta"

    You are not going to believe it but then the blue led will go on and you'll find the NIC back under ra0

The only snag that still exists is that your SSID needs to be on Broadcast, otherwise it will not work.

I'm connect now on N band (5.0Ghz) with WPA2 encryption activated and a connection strength of216Mb/s

update:

If you installed latest update for Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic), you'll notice that the NIC doesn't work anymore....

Just go back to your un tar'ed folder (BTW, below point 4 is wrong, should be cd into 2009_1214* folder)

sudo make

sudo make install

sudo modprobe rt3572a

and you are back in business

This worked perfectly for me. Thanks VERY MUCH for posting the instructions.

One thing I did notice is that after I erased the file from the download directory and rebooted, it no longer worked. I placed the bz2 file in another directory and started from there and it worked great.

After following your instructions, I am getting "Invalid module format" for the sudo modprobe command. Can someone drop some info here?

as far as I know, this error message occurs when the wrong kernel is used.

You could try to do a "make clean" and redo the operation... make, make install, modprobe, etc

is /var/log/messages giving any more clues what went wrong? You might have more chances on support on the ubuntu forums...

After redoing the make and make install. It worked. Thanks alot.

Just to say that when you upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04, you have to do the "make" procedure again. But then it works.

And I noticed that with SSID Broadcast off   Lucid Lynx detects the network now!!

For a simpler solution using the same method go here. I have taken the liberty of downloading and modifying the correct drivers to avoid confusion. Beyond this all that needs to be done is the last  three commands.

This solution worked just great on 10.04, Except I have to do it every time I turn the computer on... Any suggestions? Sorry Noob
