WPC54G connects to access point, but no internet can be found.

Excellent signal strength indicated, but no internet found.   Had just installed this wireless adapter on an old laptop running Windows 98 Second Edition; have never gotten to internet via this adapter/laptop.  Any suggestions/advice?

Re: WPC54G connects to access point, but no internet can be found.

Linksys Model #WMP54G

Router settings: Connection type DHCP; Country United States ; Wireless network name (SSID) ******; Wireless channel Auto; Wireless mode Up to 300 Mbps; Security type WEP.

Another computer is connected to the same wireless router and IS able to reach the internet.

Thanks for your help!

Re: WPC54G connects to access point, but no internet can be found.

Let me clarify something... WMP54G isn't a router, its a Wireless PCI Adapter..

pls supply your router model so that we can check it....

will follow my configuration?:

Connection Type: DHCP
Channel:1
Country: United States
SSID: Linksys_wireless
Secuty Type: WEP
Autogenerated passphrase: C6774663DD (key 1)

PCIMCIA card = WPC54G 2.4 Ghz using a laptop
status: Connected (excellent)

I then ping www.yahoo.com and it replies....this means I have succusfully setup my wireless PC and able to go online...

I want to check on your end... pls supply your router settings and model.

thanks

Re: WPC54G connects to access point, but no internet can be found.

I had the same problem yesterday upon installing a WPC54G notebook adapter card on my HP Pavilion, operating with XP Home Edition.  I had just subscribed to Verizon FIOS broadband, with an Actiontec router.  Verizon technical support's solution was to switching to the Windows wireless system as follows:

1) Open "Wireless Network Connection 3" window by clicking on double-monitor icon on taskbar.
2) Click on "Properties" to open "Wireless Network Connection 3 Properties". The "General" menu will say: "Connect using Wireless G Notebook Adapter WPC54G V3".
3) Select "Wireless Networks" window. Click on "Properties". This opens the "Wireless Network Properties" window.  Enter "Network key" number.
Click OK.
I hope this helps.
