WPC600N PC card in Toshiba laptop

[ Edited ]

I have just installed the software and then inserted the WPC600N card. I get no power LED on it. The laptop still connects with the internal network adapter. I tried turning off the network adapter in the BIOS. Still no good. I can't see the Linksys network monitor as shown in the WPC600N manual. It seems like it didn't install (can't see it the Start/programs menus). If I try and install it again, I get told that the driver is already installed.

The laptop is a Toshiba P205 running Vista Home Premium.

The router is a WRT610N. It works OK with a Gbit wired connection and also a desktop installation using a WMP300N.

Any thoughts as to how to get the WPC600N to install properly?

Thanks,

Kevin

Completely de-install the adapter and remove it.  Follow the instructions again to install it.

I am not sure it is installed properly. After just trying to install the drivers again and when the install program prompts for the WPC600N to be inserted, the install program completes but I still don't see the Linksys Network Monitor show up. The inbuilt network card then connects to the WRT610N (but only at 54Gbps).

Should I not see the Network Monitor in the system tray?

Should I not at least see the power LED show on the WPC600N?

Thanks for the rapid response.

Go to the Device Manager and check under Network Devices.  If it is there, right click and uninstall.

Already looked there, it certainly does not show as a WPC600N. It shows Atheros AR5007EG and Realtek (the Realtek is the onboard adapter). Is the Atheros the WPC600N chipset?

Now, the Toshiba has a switch on the front for cutting off the modem. It appears that that switch controls both the onboard network adapter and the PC Card slot?

It seems to me that it just doesn't recognize the WPC600N at all. Maybe this is a bad card from the get-go (it is a brand new card).

Thanks,

Kevin

Looks like the WPC600N is not installed.  The device manager should say that it is a wireless notebook adapter.  The switch in front should only control the internal wireless chip set.  Time to start the install again.  Unplug and plug it back it to make sure Winblows see it, installs it and says it is ready for use.

I had already tried that but after it gets to "insert the card" part of the install and I insert the card, it just goes to the "finish" of the install. But the network monitor doesn't show in the system tray at all. If I turn the laptop front panel switch OFF and then try to "add" a network device, Windows says that the computer is not connected to a network.

Device manager doesn't show wireless card either.

It looks like it just doesn't recognize the WPC600N. No power LED on the WPC600N even.

I would suspect a defective WPC600N card.  Try installing it in another laptop to test.   Also go to add/remove programs and remove the adapter software too.

Re: WPC600N PC card in Toshiba laptop

I was suspecting the card also. I only have one laptop, so can't try it in another one. Can't take anything like this into work.

I'll tryremoving the software and doing it again, but don't hold out much hope for that.

Thanks for your time.

Re: WPC600N PC card in Toshiba laptop

Well, removed the software and re0installed. I still get no power indicator on the card and get no network monitor in the system tray.

I guess I'll be calling Linksys!

Thanks again,

Kevin
