It's fixed! I needed to install a differet driver. I searched the forum for my network card and router, and someone had a link to an HP site that had the network adapter driver to fix the issue. Finally.
Thanks for listening!!!!

Glad you got it working. I went through a lot of what you are going through because I bought all my stuff from cisco's [Linksys] refurbishing operation [about a quarter the price at that time] and I had three computers one with Xp one with Vista and one with Win7. By trial and error I found out that the first step is proper driver installations for everything before anything is plugged in, since if the drivers are wrong nothing works.
I finally ended with a Cisco 600N router and all the adapters Cisco AE1000 usb types. Once done and your set up is working usually every problem can be solved by turning off the Modem and all PCs and the router and then bringing up first the modem then the router and then the PCs since that is the sequence the arriving internet signal goes through. This should be done before attempting to trouble shoot anything. Sometimes the DSL modem needs a reset done at the origin -- is important to verify there is an internet supplied before troubleshooting the computers adapters and routers. If you decide to add an internet security to your set up be prepared for equally frustrating experience if you want to share between computers.
Really glad you got it fixed.
