Adding new computer to existing WRT54GS network. Won't see others in workgroup

Am trying to add a Dell Latitude wireless to my existing WRT54GS home network. The Latitude says it is connected with Excellent reception BUT it won't "see" any of the other computers in the network nor will they "see" the Latitude. Also cannot access the internet or any of the network shared files from the Latitude. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!!

  1. You have to be on the same workgroup.
  2. You have to turn on Network Discovery and file sharing in your new computer.

Re: Adding new computer to existing WRT54GS network. Won't see others in workgroup

Thank you for your reply. I've double checked and Printer/File Sharing is enabled and the workgroup (MSHOME) is the same on all computers on my network (3 with ethernet cable, 1 other laptop with wireless which works, and the new Latitude). Other information.... Running XP3 on all computers and Norton 360. Again, the Latitude does seem to connect to my wireless router and shows maximum signal strength but will not recognize the other computers in the workgroup nor will they recognize the new computer. Any further suggestions? Sure appreciate the assistance!

Re: Adding new computer to existing WRT54GS network. Won't see others in workgroup

So your main concern is to share files between your computers. As you have already mentioned in your post that, all the computers are in the same workgroup.Make sure if your Dell is connected to your wireless router, its able to go online or not, and find out the IP address of your Dell Laptop. IF you have any Firewall or Antivirus installed on your computer, you can disable it on both the computers, then from your Dell computers.. try to ping your XP computers IP address, and check you are getting any replies.

Click Here and follow the instructions and you will be able to enable file sharing between your computers.

Thank you Wizzard. The Latitude is seeing the linksys wireless network however it will not go online nor see anything else in the workgroup. I've disabled the Windows Firewall and uninstalled the Norton 360. The other computers on the network have IP addresses of 10.10.10.100 thru 103. Pings to these addresses all time out. The Latitude has 104 and pings are all received. Pings from the other computers to the Latitude all time out as well. Any ideas?

Clarification...

"The Latitude has 104 and pings are all received.".... meaning that pings from the Latitude TO the Latitude are all received. All pings to the Latitude from the other workgroup computers (including another wireless laptop) all timeout.

Further information..... For what it was worth, I connected the Latitude to the network via ethernet cable and everything works great. All sharing and recognitions work as should be. Just won't talk to the workgroup with via linksys wireless network.

Double check your settings in Wireless Mac Fliter.  Your lattitude's Mac Address may be blocked.

Log on to your router and look under wireless for wireless mac filter.
