Can't associate EA6500 to my Smart Wifi account

Hi,

I have a problem with my EA6500 router. I can't connect to the internet, the connexion works fine. But, everytime i go on the smart wifi login page, i enter my login and password and then i'm asked to download the software for my EA6500 and to associate it with my account.

The problem is that i just can't update it manually because i couldn't ever go on the tools page. Never.

So i'm here with a great router but i can't configure it.

I asked the support service several times but they always asked me to reset the router. Nothing changes.

I 'm still unable to process after the login page, i have created a account successfully, i can login but everytime i just get stucked at " Associate your router with your account" page. My only options there is to click on OKAY or a link to download the firmware on Linksys support. I get the firmware but i can't install it because i can't go in the administrative page.

So basically, i can't connect to the cisco connect cloud service. Anyone can help ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Can't associate EA6500 to my Smart Wifi account

It is actually good that your internet is working. If it prompts you to upgrade the firmware of your router, then you need to do that. You need to access the router locally. Instead of using linksyssmartwifi.com type in the address bar myrouter.local or 192.168.1.1 (if this is the gateway address). This will allow you to access the router locally and manage your router settings.

Could you sort this out?

I have just posted a similar question. I cannot associate my account although the direct HTTP access to the router (EA2700) works fine.

Hi RouterGeek,

I posted an answer here http://community.linksys.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/Cannot-associate-Smart-Wi-Fi-Account-with-Router-th.... You can just reset the router and reconfigure. You can then proceed to access the settings locally and it should already be asking for the router password.

Use a wired connection for setup.  Everything went as expected for me after switching from wireless to wired.

Re: Can't associate EA6500 to my Smart Wifi account

I'm having the same "can't associate" problems.

Using wired connection.  Internet access is working fine from older Linksys router, both wired and wireless.

Tried resetting EA6500 (30/30/30 - 2 blinks - reset, 2-5 mins yaddy yaddy yada... never resets.

Can't ping 192.168.1.1, transmit failure, general failure (ipconfig /all shows that still as the default gateway IP)

Can't access myrouter/local

The associate link (verify account) from the e-mail doesn't do anything (goes to "associate router" page, OK is the only allowed response).

Can't get to Tools menu to identify current firmware (probably original), update to new firwmare, etc.

Re-tried set-up from CD, can't find wireless signal.

Re-tried set-up from web link, can't find wireless signal.

I can't un-do an auto-update, if it's set ON (can't get to Tools)

(from Similar query here: http://community.linksys.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/Update-my-EA6500-Why/m-p/918352#M293632 )

I've reviewed most potentially useful queries here, tried everything I can think of... and I do have a clue at these kinds of things...  and short of freezing the unit, nothing has worked so far.

Ideas?

-Chris

Hi ranger4444. Based on your post, it appears that your router is defective. How long have you had it? I suggest you contact Linksys Support to check the warranty of your unit.

Re: Can't associate EA6500 to my Smart Wifi account

Thanks; subsequent discussions with Linksys support agree it's toast.

Out of warranty.  Worked for 9 months, but when it crapped out, I didn't have time to troublshoot, reverted to the previous router, only just now getting around to loking at the EA6500 again.  About a year after initial failure <sigh>...

It was woring fine in early March 2014, but I had to take it off line to move equipment and furniture for a carpet installation.  The router never worked again; couldn't get it to work, nor reset.
