Can't connect PSP to Internet

Hey:

We are trying to connect to Internet with the PSP.
We are using the Linksys WRT54GC wireless router.

Went to

192.168.1.1

to access the settings, everything has been set to disable security features

PSP Version 2.6

Followed instrutions from a web site including setting the DNS to 67.171.70.72 on the PSP

There is no WEP, WPA or any other security codes.

I just disabled Firewall in the Security Mode

SPI Firewall Protection:
Block Anonymous Internet Requests:

It is our own home network of two computers and any one else who has a wireless card can access.
had a signal strength of 100% on the PSP.
But, still got message.....

A connection error has occurred
A connection to the access point could not be established, check the security settings for the network and try again.

Any suggestions as to what we are doing wrong or how to connect to the Internet using the Linksys WRT54GC?

Thanks for any info.

Re: Can't connect PSP to Internet

What is the IP Address assigned to your PSP?

Re: Can't connect PSP to Internet

On the PSP, the IP Address setting is on Automatic, which I imagine is
0.0.0.0

Also, how do I see which computers are on my wireless network at the site
192.168.1.1

Thanks

Re: Can't connect PSP to Internet

I believe that you need to assign a fixed IP (192.168.1.x) to the PSP since there's a DNS manually assigned to it. I’m also wondering why your PSP tells you to check the security settings when the router is currently not secured. Are you sure you’re connecting to your own Wireless Network?

You can view the router’s DHCP Client’s Table under Status Tab (Local Network sub-tab) and it will show all the machines behind the network (wired or wireless).

Re: Can't connect PSP to Internet

OK on the Linksys
http://192.168.1.1/Status.htm

I took this info

IP Address: 66.233.40.217
Subnet Mask: 255.255.240.0
Default Gateway: 66.233.32.1
DNS1: 64.128.144.5
DNS2: 64.13.48.12

and entered it in the IP Address Setting, Manual on the PSP, but still no go.

Re: Can't connect PSP to Internet

The DNS that you assigned to the PSP is correct but the IP Address  must be within the range provided by the router (ex. 192.168.1.10), Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0, and the Gateway is 192.168.1.1

Re: Can't connect PSP to Internet

1. I believe that by default, when the PSP does not connect, it asks to check the security settings.
For example, if your computer does not turn on, a techie will first ask if it is plugged in.

2. The router does not have any security settings, I am using a wireless notebook that is picking up a signal from the Linksys router.

3. The PSP is picking up the Linksys because the signal strength is 100 %.

4. Do I need to assign a DNS to the PSP?

5. How do I assign a fixed IP address?
Is that done on the PSP or the Linksys Setup Interface?

PS How do you change the name of the network from the default 'linksys' name?

I changed it at Setup ->

Host Name:
Domain Name:

but still get 'linksys'

Thanks for all the help.

Re: Can't connect PSP to Internet

Your first post stated that you “Followed instrutions from a web site including setting the DNS to 67.171.70.72 on the PSP” so you need to assign a fixed IP Address as well. To make sure that you’re associated with your own router, change the router’s SSID (Wireless Network Name) under Wireless Tab.

I just chaged the network name and disabled the SSID Broadcast (don't know if that has anything to do. )
