Can't connect TV or Blu-Ray through WRT54GL

I have both a Sony XBR52HX909 and a Sony BDP-S580 connected to my router (WRT54GL)via ethernet. When I try to connect to the internet, both show the wired connection as good but neither can connect to the internet. The BDP-S580 also has wireless connectivity, but it can’t connect to the internet wirelessly. I have two desktop computers connected via ethernet and two laptops connected wirelessly to the same router and all have internet connectivity.  I have tried the “auto” settings on the TV and Blu-Ray player and also tried entering the network information in manually. I still can’t connect to the internet.

   Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Can't connect TV or Blu-Ray through WRT54GL

First of all what is IP address that you get on the two Sony TV and Blu Ray? You try the following settings:

# Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the router setup page.

# Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your routers main/ basic setup page). Here is the link for determining and setting up the correct MTU size: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=fbf8e8564632422eaa8ea80bf9dcba64_386.xml&pid=80&re...

Then check the connectivity status.

Second, let me know the current firmware version on the router?

Re: Can't connect TV or Blu-Ray through WRT54GL

This is driving me nuts! I lowered the MTU as suggested & rebooted everything (computer, modem & router). I wasn't able to connect through my wired or wireless connections. I then connected one desktop directly to the modem (a Linksys DPC3008 on a Comcast connection). I still wasn't able to connect. I then unplugged the modem (no reset was performed), shut down the desktop, rebooted the modem & fired the system back up. I was then able to connect to the internet through ethernet. I’m afraid to lose my connection to the internet by hooking the router back into the loop.

All my cables (Cat5e) are new and I've replaced all the coax connectors. I've used ipconfig until my fingers hurt. Any ideas? And thanks for helping!

Re: Can't connect TV or Blu-Ray through WRT54GL

First of all download the latest firmware from the Linksys/Cisco website and update the firmware in the router. Here is the link for upgrading the firmware in the router: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=e9c2361ee7974d75913e61386a712188_4030.xml&pid=80&r...

After the successful upgrade of the firmware, reconfigure the router. As far as the reconfiguration is concern you need to do the setup:

  • The router’s power adapter needs to be plugged to your router and into an available power outlet.

  • If using a wired connection, the first Ethernet cable needs to be plugged to the computer’s LAN port into any of the router’s blue numbered Ethernet ports.

  • The second Ethernet cable should be plugged to the modem’s Internet port and the other end into the router’s yellow Internet port.

  • Ensure that you have no firewall enabled that may prevent the router from being detected.

Now you have to configure the router manually according to the type of Internet service you have.  Follow the instructions below for your specific Internet service type:

Here is the link to set up your router with Cable Internet service: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=0ff4c94586a345d082828ec2161aaecf_3686.xml&pid=80&r...

Here is the link to set up your router with DSL Internet service: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=20ee1457387f40178cd5f41d4b585db4_3687.xml&pid=80&r...

Then check the connectivity status.

Re: Can't connect TV or Blu-Ray through WRT54GL

Thanks for all your help! I can now connect all of my systems through wireless & wired connections. Now if I can just get this Netgear powerline adapter working (XAVB1004) I'll be set!
