When I put 192.168.1.1 which is the gateway default for my router I just get search results I was able to get to sign in before what am I doing wrong? I am trying to set up a secure network when I tried before I got to the screen where you change from http to HTTPS and I was kicked off internet

What is the model number of your router by the way? If you selected HTTPS for the local management access then it should be accessible using https://192.168.1.1. Did you leave the access via wireless for that enabled or disabled? Are you trying to log-in via wired or wireless? Here's what you can try to see if your router is still accessible otherwise you have to reset it back to factory defaults. Wire a computer to the router and open the command prompt and check if you can ping 192.168.1.1. If you get 4 good replies then router is fine. On the same command prompt window type start http://192.168.1.1 or start https://192.168.1.1 and will normally launch a browser and you will get the prompt for username and password.

Hi I have tried on a wired and on my wireless when I ping I get the message "not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file" I have checked and the default gateway is 192.168.1.1 my ipv4 is 192.168.1.101.
Still can't log in just get search results. I was able to log on yesterday just so confused by why this doesn't work. I appreciate the help I will try resetting the router again the model is wrt54g.

If it did not work on your wired computer to the router, hardwire also your wireless computer to the router and try the steps I mentioned above. If it will not work then go for reset and reconfigure. I suggest that you upgrade the firmware also of your router. Your router is already a legacy product and with the firmware updated on it, it will make the connectivity better using it for both wired and wireless connection. Do not forget to check the hardware version of your router which you can verify at the bottom on a sticker that has the model number.
