Connecting one router to another

I have a question, I have a router in my basement and I want to connect another router in my house.  I want to run a hardline from one of the router ports to the uplink in another router.  Do I have to do any special configuration to the second router to be able to connect to the internet?

The link you have posted makes the user change the mode on the router from gateway to router mode which is unnecessary. If nothing is connected to the internet port the settings does not make a difference.

Leaving it in gateway mode is one setting less to remember to revert back in case you want to use the second router as gateway.
