I just opened an E4200 fresh from Best Buy. The box does not say v2 anywhere. The box says the maximum speed is 300+450 Mbps. The router itself does not say v2 anywhere. From my reading, these facts point to my router being v1. And yet the firmware is v2.0.26, which I was able to upgrade automatically from the router's console to v2.0.36. So do I really have a mislabeled v2? Or is it a modified or mis-manufactured v1 which accepts the v2 firmware?

You have a V1 version. Otherwise it will say E4200V2 on the bottom.

@sabretooth If it is really a v1 why do I have v2 firmware?
@gehx My s/n starts with 01c136 which is not listed anywhere on this board.

Look on the bottom of the unit at the Model No. What does it say?

I'm going to assume it is v2 and let everyone know there is a new S/N for v2 routers starting with 01C136.

jjjobst, are you sure it doesn't say V2 on the bottom? I say this because I had to look twice because it was hard to see. I bought mine from N&**$g and the same thing happend to me.....ordered V1 received a V2. Check the bottom of the unit again, the text below the sticker.....it can be hard to see because of the reduced contrast of the text.

According to my serial number, I have v1. Is v2 much better than v1? Did I make a mistake buying v1?
Thanks.
