E1200 Ports not open on DMZ mode

[ Edited ]

I've DMZ'd my computer using the the E1200's Web Browser Config screen (192.168.1.1) yet when I try to test the ports not a single one is open.

I've used this test to see if they were open:

http://www.whatsmyip.org/ports/p2p/

And almost none of them were. Is there any issue that could be causing this?

Also when I try to open a single port the site says it times out.

Opening single ports didn't help either.

I've also tried to DMZ via the IP and the MAC address of my PC and still no luck.

Re: E1200 Ports not open on DMZ mode

Check the status page of your router. Is the IP address on the status page the same as on whatsmyip?

Are the ports really open on the computer?

Re: E1200 Ports not open on DMZ mode

I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be looking for on the Status page but I don't see any IP Adresses that match up with the one on whatismyip. Am I supposed to type in my computer's actual IP address (108.200.etc.etc) to open the ports or the IP that the router gives my computer (192.168.etc.etc)? I've even tried DMZing my computer using the MAC address and that still didn't help.

Re: E1200 Ports not open on DMZ mode

What internet IP address do you see on the main setup page?

Your computer's actual IP address is not 108.200. It's 192.168... 108.200. is the iP address of the router which connects to your ISP.

If your router shows a private IP address like 192.168.0.* on the internet connection it means that the E1200 is connected to another router which also uses private IP address. In that case, the public IP address 108.200 would be on that other router and you have chained two routers. Port forwarding on the E1200 would be fully ineffective simply because traffic never makes it to the E1200...

Re: E1200 Ports not open on DMZ mode

My computer's IP on the router is 192.168.1.118 currently. It changes every so often but I have the DMZ set to my PC's MAC address. This router is connected to only a modem but I need to see if the modem is blocking any ports as well. I don't remember seeing anything about it. I'll let you know in an update.

Re: E1200 Ports not open on DMZ mode

I'm not seeing any internet IP address listed on the main Setup screen. Could you specify a little more?

Sorry, my fault. Status not setup...

What do you see on the Status page?

Compare demo ui: http://ui.linksys.com/files/E1200/1.0.00/Status_Router.html

Re: E1200 Ports not open on DMZ mode

As you can see the IP address on the internet port of the E1200 is not a public one. It's not the one you see on whatismyip.com or similar.

Your "modem" is also a router. The public IP address is on that modem. Any incoming connection from the internet ends at the modem. Thus, any port forwarding on the E1200 is fully ineffective as you don't have any matching port forwarding on your modem.

Best solution: set your modem into "bridge" mode to turn it into a real modem. In bridge mode you have to configure the E1200 for your internet connection (DHCP or PPPoE depending on your ISP). Then the E1200 gets the public IP address and port forwarding should work.
