E3200 Cannot Connect To The Internet

I have purchased a new E3200 to replace my old Linksys router.  It locates my computers and sets up a network, but cannot connect to the internet via my Comcast cable modem.  I have read on this forum about Mac address issues, but it has located the Mac address.  The internet IP address is all zeros, and releasing and renewing the IP does nothing.  Help!

Follow these instructions to set up for cable.

Re: E3200 Cannot Connect To The Internet

Thank you- I've tried that- and while I do see a mac address, I have all zeros for the internet IP address.  Power cycling hasn't changed that.  What is the next step?  The internet connection is fine, as I am using it now with my old Linksys router.

Re: E3200 Cannot Connect To The Internet

Hard reset the router and try again.  Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds and release.  Wait 10 seconds and power cycle.  Now reconfigure and try again.

Re: E3200 Cannot Connect To The Internet

I did what you suggested- same results.  It gets a mac address, but no internet connection, all zeros.

Re: E3200 Cannot Connect To The Internet

Open a cmd window and post the output for 'ipconfig /all' .

Re: E3200 Cannot Connect To The Internet

Connect the computer with the Ethernet Cable . Check if you are able to access the Internet .

Open the command prompt again .

And do the ipconfig/all .

Note down the Physical Address under the Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection .

Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the router and also connect the computer with the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port of the router .

Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds .

Power cycle the modem and router .

Open the setup page of the Linksys router .

Go to the Mac Address Clone tab and Enable it .

Enter the Physical Address which you have noted .

Do not Click on Clone My PC MAC , Save the Settings .

Power cycle the modem and router . See if you are able to access the Internet .

Re: E3200 Cannot Connect To The Internet

Strangely, I can't connect to the internet when i connect the Comcast cable modem directly to my computer.  If I let Windows 7 troubleshoot, I get "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration."  But, if I connect my old router inbetween the cable modem and the computer, I can connect just fine.

Re: E3200 Cannot Connect To The Internet

HOLD THE BOAT!  It's now working!  Thank you everyone for the excellent support!  One final cable modem reset did the trick.  Now both desktops and my laptop are connected fine.  Can't get my printer to see the network, but I will work on that later.  Thank you again!
