Re: Definitely NOK(2): E4200 - Slow internet download speed

So far mine is fixed. I set it from settings I thought I saw in this thread, but can't find the person who posted them to thank them. I hope that person sees this so they know they helped me.

I set 5 ghz - 40 mhz only  and  channel 36

I set 2.4 ghz - 20mhz only  channel 11

Just watched a movie on Netflix, didn't buffer once. Yesterday that was not the case. Both movies 1 1/2 hrs long. Yesterday I lost count how many times it bufferrred.

I thought I would put on here what worked for me, thanks to some one here who posted it. who I can't find. It may not work for you, but it did for me.

Firmware had already been updated 1.0.02 before I posted my problem. This router is new to me and had never used the old version firmware anyway, so don't know the difference.

Many thanks.

Re: Definitely NOK(2): E4200 - Slow internet download speed

Well it was great while it lasted. Watched another movie on Netflix to see what would happen.  Bufferred so many times, I lost count, so back to square one :smileysad:

Re: E4200 - Slow internet download speed

I recently purchased the e4200 and experienced a few similar issues.  I replaced a year old dlink router simply because I was not getting a good signal on the opposite end of the house (opposite the router).  I felt the need to hold my laptop in the air if the connection stalled and stand on one foot if things got really bad:smileyhappy:  Nonetheless, I have worked in IT for 15+ yrs and had good experience with Linksys/Cisco products for the most part.

After replacing my old router with the e4200, I connection was slightly better.  I went from 1-2 bars with my old router to 2-3 with my new one.  I disconnected the router and moved it around the house looking for the best location and thought I found it - the garage:smileyhappy:  I had the cable company drop a link in the garage and built a shelf up high to hold the modem and router.  After completion, I setup the router and put it to the test.  That evening all was well until the next day when I noticed the bars bounce from 5 to 4 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 2, etc.  I also notice my speed was bouncing from 9mb to 30mb to 50 and back to 9, etc.

I was lost.  I called tech support and received no useful information so I hit various forums.  In the end, I disabled QoS and bam - my bars are solid along w/ my speed:smileyhappy:  Hope this might help others.

Re: E4200 - Slow internet download speed

The throughput of my E-4200 router varies wildly on WiFi from 80mps to 216mps. It often stablizes at 162mps and holds there for a time.   I have been troubleshooting for weeks, and cannot determine why this is. Perhaps someone could provide a suggestion that I have not already tried or thought of.

Here is my setup:

Using a Qwest DSL modem gateway connected to the E4200. I have disabled the 2.4ghz and enabled the 5ghz, because it's only capable of 150mps.There are two PC's, one is ethernet, the other is WiFi with a Belkin USB adapter. Both are Win7 Professional. The WiFi PC is on the other side of a drywall wall from the Linksys. Line of sight is straight and the distance is only about 40 feet max. My adapter is rated 300mb at 5ghz. It does not even matter if the WiFi client is on, and the ethernet client is off, still the same unstable throughput. Nothing else that might interfere is running or placed in the way of reception.  There is only one other 5ghz network  in range. likely a neighbor, and that signal is not that strong, two bars. I get only four bars now with the E4200 on my network.

Now,  I should at a minimum be getting a steady throughput of 216mps, but that is rare, and it never holds for long. It does not matter what I am doing, Email, web surfing/research, or watching Hulu. Time of day/night seems irrelevant. I am not using a Homegroup, but have the Network set to a Home Network, using WPA2. I turned off Ipv6 at the client, and throughput acutally went DOWN 50mps. Even turned off QoS like the last poster, but throughput went down again.

I had an Engenus set in Access point mode and got a steady, strong 150mps throughput every time on Ch. 11, with 5 signal bars and without much variation in throughput. I upgraded to the Linksys E4200 because I thought I could at least get a steady 250mps out of it in my setup. My Engenus now seems more reliable, and the expense of the Linksys E4200 now seems unjustified.

All the drivers are current, but I have not upgraded the firmware on the E4200 because of the issues mentioned on other threads in the forum. I bought this a month ago.

Would putting the WiFi on a different internal 192.168.x.xxx segment provide better throughput? Does the guest WiFi network running as the default drain bandwidth even when not in use? If so, how can that be disabled?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Re: E4200 - Slow internet download speed

Compare the actual throughput between the two routers and see which one gives you the faster throughput. You can also try v1.0.01 if you want since they "fixed 2.4ghz unstable issue". Not exactly sure What they meant by that. Here it is anyway:http://www.mediafire.com/?qscbxpgls2hkmxb

Re: E4200 - Slow internet download speed

I have had my E4200 (V1) for a couple of months now (replacing a DIR 635) and I am having the same issue as other users regarding slow download speed.

Computer connected to my modem (SB6120 Docsis 3.0) I get a steady 30Mb down and 4 up.

Connecting via my new E4200 i get a max of 4.5mb down and 800k up.

And this is not WIFI ! this is wired connection to the device.

I am running the latest firmrware (1.0.03).

What is your link speed to the router (e.g 10mbps/100mbps/1000mbps)?

Re: E4200 - Slow internet download speed

my connection is 1Gb to the router.

I have not changed my set-up when installing this new router.

I went back to using my old DIR 635 and it works like a champ.

I purchased the E4200 for the improved wireless performance, but as of now it is unusable.

One extra bit of information, when trying to access the config page on the E4200, it takes 4 to 6 secondes to display, on my old router it is instantanious!

I did try the 30/30/30 reset and reloaded the firmware followed by another 30/30/30 reset but no luck !

Re: E4200 - Slow internet download speed

I know that from what you said the cable sounds good, but could you still try using a different cable and connect it to a different port on the router.

Re: E4200 - Slow internet download speed

I have installed my new 4200v2 a few days ago.  My download is horrible.  Accourding to all the speed tests I do it is right where it should be but when I download files it takes forever if I try to stream movies it takes forever.  My old very cheap router worked fine and never buffered while streaming.  All I have done is the basic setup as far as setting passwords.  Have not changed any factory settings.  I have tried moving the router around but that has done nothing.
Does anyone have solutions to these very slow speeds.  I can post any information needed.

Thanks
