E4200 USB NTFS how to ?

How do you format the drive for this with the routers web based utility?  Or do you just do this while its plugged into your PC then connect it to the router.   I know how to format the drive with the web based utility using the FAT system but its limited to 4gb files.   Why on earth would you want that ?

I plugged mine directly to my PC/laptop, formatted it to NTFS and then connected it to the router.  It has been working perfectly for me.

You can connect the drive to the router. Open the setup page of the router and go to Storage tab.
To format a disk as FAT32, select the disk you want to format, and then click Format Disk. (If your disk was formatted with multiple partitions, then the formatting will delete them and create a single partition.)

Or connect the drive to computer and format it to NTFS. Then connect it to the router.

Re: E4200 USB NTFS how to ?

I have a similar situation.  I just got my E4200 and after I set it up I connected my existing, formatted, FAT32, 400Gb, single partition external hard drive to the USB port.  When I put 192.168.0.1 in my browser and log in, I can see the drive being correctly recognized by the router.  I created the share for sharing EVERYTHING.  So far so good, except none of 3 computers on the network can "see" the drive.  Two are Windows XP SP3 and one is Windows 7.  What am I doing wrong?

Why would you want 200gb worth of crap in the first place?

You could always plug the drive back into a PC, shrink the FAT parition by 200+ GB, create a new NTFS partition at least as large as your total file size, move your content to the NTFS partition, delete the FAT partition, and then expand the NTFS partition out to fill the drive.  This is all assuming you have at least a 500GB hard drive.
