E4200: WD MyBook Essential 2.0 1TB not found

I get a timeout in Cisco Connect when I select "Connect USB drive". Also there is no detection through the router website. The hard drive works fine when I hook it up via USB. It's NTFS formatted. Is there any other way to make the router detect the drive? (It does recognize a USB stick, so it's no hardware issue on that side)

I guess I'll just talk to myself if nobody else cares...

just joking. Update: It also does not recognize a WD MyBook 2.0 with 2 TB.....

Hi!

What is the version number of E4200? You have mentioned, it doesn't detect when you run the Cisco Connect software. Did you try login to the web interface of the router and check if it shows the drive under the 'storage' tab?

Re: E4200: WD MyBook Essential 2.0 1TB not found

Hi! Version is 1.0, Firmware is updated to 1.0.03 (build 14). The web interface does not recognize any of the 3 external drives that I have tried. It just says "detecting..." and nothing happens (any other options like "format" - obviously - aren't available either. "Refresh" does nothing). After reading serveral other threads about this issue on this board and elsewhere I've come to the conclusion that the router strictly does only support those drives that are listed - unfortunately both my WD Mybooks are either a combination of either wrong version number and/or wrong storage capacity. It was my mistake to assume that "USB storage support" meant more than supporting 20 models only - I think it's extremely misleading to advertise a feature that is so poorly developed.

Your HDD is 2TB and with the latest firmware its does support upto 3TB. I don't think version of HDD would make much difference.

I know it is time consuming. Disconnect the drive and reset the router to factory defaults by pushing the reset button with a paper clip for 30 seconds and then see if it detects the drive or not?
