EA4500 - anyone HAPPILY using Cisco Connect Cloud with it?

Hi
I'm in the UK and have a EA4500. Currently away on business but when i get home i'm in two minds whether i should update the router to the latest fw or not. So far nearly everyone on these forums appears to be anti-Cisco Connect Cloud...however i would prefer to have the latest fw for peace of mind - my setup isn't that complicated and i don't have a problem signing up to Cisco cloud. Is there anyone out there who's actually using Cisco Connect Cloud on their EA4500 and perfectly happy with it? From my experience people usually post on product forums to vent their dissatisfaction, its rare to see posts praising something. So come on all you Cisco Connect Cloud fanbois...come out of your hiding.....

Cheers :smileyhappy:

I'm glad that you are happy with the Cisco Connect Cloud .  I guess Cisco already knew that there will be a lot of feedback about it bad or good.  But for me ,I find it great !

I believe that I can make it :smileyhappy:

The Cisco Connect Cloud is a free service bundled with the new Linksys Smart Wi-Fi routers (EA2700, EA3500, and EA4500) and the Linksys E4200 v2.  This service allows you to access your router, configure and check your home network instantly from wherever you are.

With the Cisco Connect Cloud, you can do the following:

  • Configure your wireless settings for remote access
  • View and connect devices to your network
  • Create a separate network for your guests
  • Protect your kids with safe web surfing
  • Prioritize bandwidth to specific devices and applications
  • Test your Internet connection speed
  • Control access to your shared files
  • Configure your Internet access
  • Diagnose connectivity issues
  • Customize your router settings
  • Protect your network

FWIW:  All the above can already be accomplished under previous firmware w/o intrusive/possibly insecure 'cloud' branded firmware with just a bit of setup and basic networking knowledge.  Kudos to Cisco for providing a solution in search of a problem!:smileywink:

I count 2 so far. But if you like the cloud and it works for you, I am happy for you. However that's not what I bargained for when I bought my router. I like the Classic firmware. I like the security and I like not having my privacy violated. It does all that the Cloud does without having to sign your soul away via the new Terms of Usage. Give Choice a chance, Cisco. Maintain the Classic firmware. Then see how many migrate to your cloud. That's the fair thing to do.

To me it is not realy "Cloud"  it is remote  management. I have it enabled, It works Oke, but the ability to connect to my home network from anywhere as if I where at home that would be realy cloud..... so that (missing) feature would be a real benefit.

And you had the power to do this all the time without the cloud.

Re: EA4500 - anyone HAPPILY using Cisco Connect Cloud with it?

I have a EA6500 and I'm mostly happy with ConnectCloud. I did have to reboot the other day becuase I got a 500 error that seems to come from the EA6500. I'm not too happy about being unable to use the DDNS provider of my choice... it wants to restrict me to DynDNS or TZO (that's now owned by DynDNS)...

Based on this link: http://homekb.cisco.com/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=d3423e3979b64d5c9887a10e6f787daa_Setting_up_DDNS_..., it is indicated that linksys routers only support DynDNS and TZO DDNS service providers. This could be by product design and that explains why you can't use a DDNS provider of your choice.
