Finding my Security Code or pass phrase

I set up my daughter's Dell laptop last year to our WRT54G wireless router and I'm trying to connect to our wireless network now with another laptop (a new Dell) and can't find (or remember) my security code or pass phrase. Is there any place on the old laptop that I can access this info? How can I configure the new laptop without this info? HELP!!!

Re: Finding my Security Code or pass phrase

I had the same problem not to long ago. If you go to 192.168.1.1 and type in "admin" as your login and password you should be able to get access to the setup screen. Unfortunately, you will have to turn off the router's security features in order to get the laptop to work. Kinda dangerous so I recommend that you wait for another answer, but it's a quick fix. I'm pretty sure someone will provide a better answer than this. Good Luck.

Re: Finding my Security Code or pass phrase

Like shobushido said, you have to access the router and under the security tab will be your passphrase.  If not then disable your security and power cycle your router.  Then go back into your router and reconfigure WPA or WPA2 security since WEP is no longer recommended because its been proven to be easy to crack.  If you need help getting into your routers user interface I am sure one of us will post step by step instructions on how to do that.

Re: Finding my Security Code or pass phrase

on the comp which is online , Open an Internet Explorer
Page, and in the address bar, type http://192.168.1.1, press
return, And when asked for Username and Password,
Leave the Username blank and in the Password field,
type admin . This will help you access the Router's
Console. Now, Click the Tab " Wireless " at the top,
Then Click the Tab ' Wireless Security ' below the Wireless Tab,
Encryption Mode will be ' 64 Bits10 Hex Digits ' ,
and there you wiill find wep key 1  -- thts your security key.
Restart the Wireless Computer.Once the Computer has restarted completely,
To the Bottom Right Hand Corner of your computer,[ to the System tray where you find the clock ]You could find a Small Computer Icon , Right click on it, click view available wireles ntw  ,whn you try connecting it may prompt for
Security key, Type the 10 Digit Number. Click Connect
It should connect.

Re: Finding my Security Code or pass phrase

I tried to use admin as the password but it does not allow me in. Is there another way to access the code?

Re: Finding my Security Code or pass phrase

The password admin doesn't work for me either when I try to log in.  I don't remember changing the password to something else, but I guess I am not positive because someone else set up our wireless for us.  Is there any way to reset that password to admin?

Re: Finding my Security Code or pass phrase

All of you above must hard reset your router.  Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds and release.  Wait 30 seconds and power cycle the router.  Connect via wired computer to 192.168.1.1 username blank password admin and reconfigure your router from scratch.
