I just dug my router (wrt54g) out of the closet and hooked it up but I cant remember my name or password for the router. Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve paying linksys any sort of "fee"

Hi mitzenmacher and welcome to the forums!
You can check your router's password by logging in the router's set up page using one of your working computers.

You can find a reset button somewhere usually at the bottom of the router depending on your router model.
After that, your router will revert to its default configurations and you'd need to set it up once again.
Type 192.168.1.1 on your browsers address field. Default, is to leave username blank and type admin in the password field.
Refer to my signature for instructions how to set it up depending on your ISP type.
