Having Trouble With My MTU Settings

I use a WRT54G for online connectivity to a xbox360 and a computer. Three days ago my power went out, it came back on the same day. Since then whenever I try to play online with my Xbox 360 it says "MTU test failed" and says my MTU settings are too low.

I have tried many ways to fix this and none have worked so far so I figured I might as well try here. I am still looking for other ways to fix it but if anyone has any useful advice please post it.

Btw My 360 and computer are connected to my router, which is connected to my modem which is an Arris cable modem.

Re: Having Trouble With My MTU Settings

Connect it to your computer as per the instructions that came with it, and check to make sure the MTU setting is for 1364, which should open enough bandwidth for your console to connect.

Although having too many things connected to your router could overload it's bandwidth.

Re: Having Trouble With My MTU Settings

Follow this, It will surely work...

Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin , it will open the set-up page of your router...

Then click on the tab "Applications and gaming" and click on sub
tab "Port Range forwarding"
1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box
type in 88, in end box type in 88, in protocol keep it both, in ip
address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box.Click on Save Settings.

2)   On the second line in Application box type in "XboxLive", in start box
type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip
address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box.Click on Save Settings.

Once you return to the set up page click on the Status tab...Take a note of DNS1 and DNS2.

Click on Set-up...Change the MTU to Manual and change the MTU Size to 1452... Click on Save

Settings.

Now assign the given ip address on your xbox
   ip address :- 192.168.1.20
   subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0
   default gateway :- 192.168.1.1

To set static Ip address on the X-Box go to the Network Settings of the X-Box...Also assign the dns

address on the xbox in the same way...

Turn off your Router and X-Box... Wait for a minute...Power on the Router First...Wait for a

minute..Test your X-Box...It should connect...

Re: Having Trouble With My MTU Settings

I'm having the same problem with my MTU settings but I've come accross a problem that I have spent quite some time on and I am asking for any help. My problem is accessing the mtu settings. I am using a WRT160N and I used the web address you showed in your earlier post http://192.168.1.1/  however when it brings up the box asking for the username and password I am stuck. I have tried everything, I left the username as blank and entered the password as admin. But it's not working. In other forums I've seen to try the username and password as both admin but that hasn't worked either. I've turned off my firewall, reset my router and still nothing. If you have any solution to this I would greatly appreciate it!

                                                                                                                                           Thank You!

Re: Having Trouble With My MTU Settings

I also forgot to mention that after I enter the username and password three times it goes to a page saying 401 unauthourized authorization required. Thought I better let you know if it makes any difference.
