What is the model number of your wireless router.
Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon Interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.
Click on Setup tab and change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings. power cycle the router and see if that works.

it actually depends. if you play online gaming using your PC/ console wired to your router, then tweaking the MTU settings as well as the router's NAT may be involved in giving you a better router connection. if you're wireless to the router, you may tweak the settings like the router's channel, etc. you may also disable WEP or WPA and just enable wireless MAC filtering for wireless security. i would assume that un-encrypted data transmits faster than encrypted.
