LinkSys e3000: Poor wireless signal

Hi,

I have configured a new LinkSys e3000 as as wireless router in our house.

I have left the configuration as default (only secured it and turned on the DHCP server).

I have only turned on the 2,4 GHz network ( because the 5GH had an even shorter range).

Everything works and all my devices can connect to the router and access the internet.

However i find the singnal strenght of the router to be very poor.

Already in the next room it drops to 60%. And in some rooms on the 1st floor the signal drops completly.

This happens not even 20m away from the router in an ordinary "family house".

Is there a setting somewhere which could increase the signal strength ?

I noticed that the router has no antenna, can one be bought and attached so the signal increases ?

The firmware version is 1.0.02 and i found a newer ony on your web 1.0.03. Would it help to upgrade to it ?

Any onther ideas how to improve the signal strength ?

Thank you in advance

Hynek

Re: LinkSys e3000: Poor wireless signal

There are built in antennas for this router.

Connect the computer to the router and open the setup page of the router.

Go to the wireless tab and change the Wireless channel to 11. Save the settings.

Click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation threshold to 2306. Save the settings.

See if that helps you.

You can also try to upgrade the firmware on your router.

Connect the computer with the Ethernet cable to the router. Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer. Open the setup page of the router. Click on Administration tab and go to Firmware upgrade sub tab. Browse the firmware file that you have already downloaded and upgrade it on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on the router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 10 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.

Re: LinkSys e3000: wireless signal available but not open internet only by ip address

Your problem description is not so clear. If your having problems with the internet not working wirelessly on your laptop for instance though you have good signal bars and this is true to all wireless devices then there's something not right with the router's connectivity. What you could try is make sure the internet is working if you hardwired your pc to the router(ethernet) with the cable cord. If it is, then check the wireless configuration on the router's interface. Check this link to guide you. http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=e1ec57e167054575a8a7b924e23ee10e_Manually_Configur...

Make sure you manually configured the settings and for the wireless channel, don't dwell with the auto but choose a specific range like 20MHz or 40MHz and for the standard set it to 3, 6, 9, 11 not just auto.
