Linksys E1000 poor connection

Hi, I've never been able to use wireless devices in my home. I have my main computer, a secondary computer and a Roku wired to my router. Now I have a tablet I'd like to use also. I moved my router to several different places and everything works great except for my main computer. If the router is not right next to it connected with short wires it does not want to work and if the router is in this room with my main computer, I can not get any wireless connection at all. I've tried changing the channel on the router using 192.168.1.1, no user name and admin as the password, but it just keeps telling me that it requires a user name and password. I'm guessing the reason I can't move the router out of this room is because the network cables are too long. The ones I'm using are 50 feet. That's 50 feet from the modem to the router and 50 feet back to the computer. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions.   Thanks,   Jeff

Hi. Perhaps you have installed the Cisco Connect already and you have set a username and password through that software. Try to look for Cisco Connect on the computer that you used when you installed the router for the first time. If you're able to get in to your router page, try channels 1,3,6,9. You might want to check on the firmware as well.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, I finally figured how to change the channel. All the instructions I couild find stopped oner step short of getting to where I needed to be, but I finally figured it out and changed the channel and fixed the problem.

poor wireless connection is always due to interference. changing channel settings should address this.

to add, make sure the device is at an ideal location- an elevated spot to ensure interference caused by physical obstructions is eliminated.
