Re: Linksys router WRT54G intermittently assigns 192.168.100.x IP address

@zee29

I didn't interpret it that way.

The modem shouldn't have it's Dhcp server on and it shouldn't be assigning private addresses.

The dhcp server is supposed to shutoff after the modem authenticates and establishes a high speed connection.

it is curious that the problem (as described) is isolated to wireless devices and does not extend to wired devices seeking a dhcp-provided address

I'm not sure I would draw that conclusion. I did not have as many *permanently* wired devices as the wireless ones. Actually, the only wired device was the Ooma VOIP box, which did have intermittent loss of connectivity probably due to the same issue. I don't know. You're right though, that the few times I connected the laptop to the WRT54G directly, I got the correct DHCP address.

Yup this is really a weird scenerio, but  if the concern has already been isolated using another router then there could be something with that router.

Quick update. This had nothing do with the router or the cable modem. The problem was the Comcast cable box. The solution is bizarre and rather simple. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,27681662 I wanted to let others who had the problem know. thanks
