How do i change my security method to WPA@- PSK (AES)?

Hi,

I would like to know Y this new router E4200 is defalting to PSK when I select WPA2 and not AES?

I would also like to know Y on my 2.4 when I select mixed 20/40 it defaults to 20 MHZ

Somthing seems very wrong and I am using the latest firmware. I purchased this router in hopes of replacing my E3000 but the performance does not seem on par or better then my E3000 so I very well may return it to Bestbuy if I dont get a fix for this. The security should default to AES becouse PSK is slower and that in its self a trouble.

Thanks,

Ray

Re: Rotuer Security Question

PSK=pre-shared key has nothing to do with AES or TKIP. PSK is in contrast to the "Enterprise" variants.

WPA2 Personal is WPA2-PSK aka WPA2 with a pre-shared key. WPA2 Personal always uses AES.

WPA Personal is WPA-PSK aka WPA with pre-shared key. WPA Personal always uses TKIP.

WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode allows both WPA versions and thus connections using AES or TKIP.

The router will automatically use 20 MHz bands only if it finds too much interference for reliable 40 MHz operation.

Speeds higher than 54 Mbit/s are only possible if you use WPA2.

Re: Rotuer Security Question

Hello there!

I have a E3000 N-router that I hooked up last year at my beach house.  I left it unsecured so that renters could connect to it.  However comma one of the renters decided that it needed to be secure.  My laptop still connects to it, no problem, but no one else can connect to it.  The renter left the password, etc., but it must be incorrect because it works for no one else.  Sigh....  How can i reset this router to make in unsecured again?  I really appreciate any help you can give me!

Thank you!

David

Re: Rotuer Security Question

Hi wolverine8 and welcome to the forums!

You can reset the router's password by logging in the router's set-up page. Please click on the link for the instructions.

Re: Rotuer Security Question

No you don't need it. Just open the router's page like what the instructions I posted above says.

Re: Rotuer Security Question

I tried logging into the webpage and had to enter the username and password that the renter left.  It is giving me a 401 unauthorized.  Am I at the right place. (UPnP)?

Re: Rotuer Security Question

The default username is blank (nothing) and the password is admin. If it not works, reset the router but you may need to reconfigure everything from scratch.

Re: Rotuer Security Question

That worked to open the page! Thank you. I've reread the directions you sent but they are all about how to set up the security and I can't find anything to tell me how to switch it back to unsecured. I apologize for my lack of technical savvy.  I am learning as I go.
