Re: Unknown device on network (Linksys EA4500)

I've tried changing the SSID and password (using WPA2).  The same thing continues to happen.  All of our phones and devices are accounted for.   Please note that I have had a wireless network for years with NO problem, until this upgrade required me to broadcast my SSID.  Also, if something (a neighbor's phone, for instance) tries to connect and fails, it doesn't belong in my device list (even with an offline status) but this new software apparently will display it anyway.  As for the "Unknown Device" that IS online, I think the clue is in the unusual MAC address, but I don't know what to make of it.  Thanks for the response.

Re: Unknown device on network (Linksys EA4500)

Is Guest Access enabled?

If yes, then any device can make a wireless connection and will show up in the DHCP list, but has no Internet access and no internal network access.

Guest devices get Internet access after entering the right Guest password in a browser screen, Guest device never get access to the internal network.

I suggest to disable Guest access, unless really rquired.

Re: Unknown device on network (Linksys EA4500)

Do you use the Guest Network? If not you can disable it. There might be someone connecting to it but if he/she did not supply the password for the Guest Network, he/she would not be able to go to the internet and no access to the main network would be given even if password is supplied.

Re: Unknown device on network (Linksys EA4500)

I just purchased an EA4500 a few weeks ago and I to am seeing an unknown network device with mac address

FF:FF:FF:FF:00:00 on my devices list. Also another MAC is appearing which is 22:00:00:00:00:00    This has got to be a bug because I have both DHCP reservation and MAC filtering enabled and these unknown MAC addresses are grabbing already assigned IP's

Have you checked the Mac Addresses of the devices connected to the network? They could be one of those devices connected but just saying unknown instead of the device name. A powercycle would actually help. Unplug the router for 20 seconds and plug it back. Check again.

Re: Unknown device on network (Linksys EA4500)

I have the same issue.  My unknowns are grabbing IP's of my DirecTV boxes and some of the computers on my network.  No matter what you do, they randomly show up.

It's rather annoying and believe it's a bug.  It needs to be fixed!

Re: Unknown device on network (Linksys EA4500)

are you using a network monitoring software like network magic? something like this happened to me. the same unknown devices on my network magic software were showing up on the dhcp clients table (accessed thru CIsco Connect Cloud). i sought network magic support's help and they had me stop the service. after a computer and router reboot, i was able to get all the unknown devices off my system. seemed like there was a conflict of sorts. now i am using only the cloud and only my devices are showing up on the list.

Re: Unknown device on network (Linksys EA4500)

I have verifed every MAC on my network, and both reset and power cycled the router. The same two MAC addresses eventually show up.

Hillary681- You may be on to something as I am using the app Device Monitr. I miight try uninstalling the app for a week and see what happens.

There are some instances wherein using two software with identical functions could somehow messed up the system. Let us know of what are your findings after you have uninstalled that software.

I'm not using any type of monitoring software.  So that eliminates that part of it for me at least.
