When i stream higher resolution videos to my TV or PC, from the usb stick attached to my router(linksys EA4500). The videos freeze, then playes again, then freeze, etc. I have no problem with lower res. videos or music. Could there be a firmware update to solve this problem, or is it a hardware issue?

How does your TV connect to the router? Is it connected wirelessly? Can it see the 5 ghz network? How far is it from the router?

The connection is wireless. The router is app. 4 metres away. There is only a thin wooden wall between.
I don't know how to check if the tv can see the 5 ghz. The internet on the TV works flawlessly.

I see. It is better to connect your TV to the 5 ghz network if the TV can see it. 5 ghz is designed for video streaming. Since your accesing or viewing high resolution vidoes from the Virtual USB, the TV should be connected to that network. What firmware are you using? Are you using the Classic Firmware or the Cloud Firmware?

Not really correct. Most new TV won't even have a 5Ghz band as the distance is limited. The 2.4 band is just fine for streaming Full HD content. TV manufacturers do not want to troubleshoot 5Ghz problems by telling the person to move the TV 20 feet closer to their router.
The OP is trying to increase the speed of the USB drive which may be diffiecult. A router is just that. It's number one functions is to connect to the Internet and router information to other devices. USB speed will always be slow as the router does not have enough CPU power or memory to handle all this at once from a simple home router.

I'm using the Cloud firmware.

You can isolate the problem by connecting the TV hardwired to the router and check if the video will still freeze.

Yes, i need a long cable to do that, without making a hole in the wall. But the problem also exsist when i try to stream the videos to my pc. There the videos freeze even more, also the low res. ones, and it's impossible to use that. My pc and router is also wireless connected but the distance is 2 feet and the speed is always more than 100 Mbs.

I would suggest that you follow what Jake_2.0 recommended - to check if the video will still freeze if you are hardwired to the router. Since it would be hard for you to do it using the tv itself but same problem is also experienced by your computer, you can hardwire your computer to the router and then try to do videostreaming. This way you can check if wired to the router the problem is still existing. By the way, what are the wireless settings for your 2.4Ghz network?

The settings for 2,4 Ghz is : Activated, Mixed and Auto. The 5 Ghz is the same. I believe it's the factory settings.
